Calypso's Story

Calypso, born February 13, 2026 joined Mattie's Place March 29th after arriving from a hoarding situation with authorities involved. Mom (went to another rescue) and 3 babes with Dad joined Mattie's Place; Bartholomew (profile on the website), Captain(currently not available for adoption), Sailor and Calypso.

Calypso went straight to our veterinarian to get her basic vetting underway and will continue over the coming weeks straight through to her spay in September 2026 at the cost of Mattie's Place on a non negotiable adoption contract.

Calypso is a confident and active pup that will fit into most any lifestyle.

She is in foster care with her canine brothers as well as small humans and does exceptionally well.

I don't know what her breed mixes are but based on presumption from Mom & Dad I would guess Shih Tzu and Havanese maybe (original owner said chihuahua?) but that is purely a guess.

An adopter prepared to invest in professional training takes priority in adoption selection.

Since Calypso is still just a baby, she'll need someone home most often for the coming months so she can learn and grow and prepare for adulthood.

Calypso will require regular professional grooming in her lifetime, so an adopter must have that financial plan when considering adoption budgets.

She is not cat tested, but I can't imagine there would be a cat issue.

I am unsure what her adult weight would be, but presumably in the 15 - 20 pound range as an adult dog.

FROM THE FOSTER:

Calypso is a tiny girl with a big personality! Even though she’s the smallest of her 3 siblings in care, she never lets that stop her. She’s always first one out of the puppy pen and the last one to leave the party.

She’s incredibly smart and attentive, she loves attention and is quick to wag her tail and show her affection.

Calypso is doing a great job sleeping in her crate at night only waking up for a quick potty break once a night.

Calypso is a fan of her young human foster siblings and enjoys playtime with them as much as with the adult humans in the house.

She’s a big adventure seeker and loves to run and play. Her favourite toy right now are her jingle balls (cat toys) as she loves to roll them across a hard surface and chase them.

She is very intelligent and likes to show it by showing the other puppies the ā€œescapeā€ routes. She’s always seeking a new skill and would flourish in an environment where her smart, curious nature can be encouraged and she can be stimulated.

Once playtime is over, Calypso loves to be cuddled and carried, letting you know by her quick tail wag when you pick her up and her frequent kisses when in your arms.

Calypso will love her new family whoever they are and she will be a very sociable, devoted, fun loving, and affectionate companion.

WE DO NOT ADOPT INTO THE USA OR AT LEAST NOT WHILE TRUMP MAKES IT UNSAFE FOR CANADIAN PETS/PEOPLE

-----------------------

$875 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any required surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leash|collar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing (crate not supplied but all dogs crate trained unless otherwise specified)

-----------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen.

-----------------------

Mattie's Place does not deem any dog in our care hypoallergenic, allergy-free or non-allergenic. Unless you are willing to take daily medication to manage dog allergies, please do not apply to adopt because I can't risk a dog being returned due to allergic reactions.

Calypso will require regular professional grooming in her lifetime, so an adopter must have that financial plan when considering adoption budgets.

She is not cat tested, but I can't imagine there would be a cat issue.
