Meet Callie

UPDATE as of OCT 14th: Because of the considerable interest in this dog, we are no longer accepting new applications.

Callie appears to be a 2-year-old Collie/Shepherd mix, but the rest of her background is a bit of a mystery, so we consulted her tea leaves to learn more. First, we learned she is quite hungry (she tried to eat the tea leaves!) and we think her meals were sporadic. She is always up for a meal or snack!

Her spirit animal is a panther. Callie looks to be a cute, dainty cuddle-bug, and while the cuddle-bug part is true, she is anything but dainty! This girl is an athlete through & through. With panther-like precision she stalks squirrels, cats, and bunnies at every opportunity. She leaps into the air and can climb trees! In fact, Callie loves to jump and is working on controlling this urge around people, but sometimes enthusiasm gets the best of her. Like any true athlete, her skills are fine-tuned and suit a purpose -- hunting. She does not quite understand why the other dogs get excited to play with toys or to fetch a ball -- she just watches them puzzled. Like any wild cat, she startles at loud noises and her new residence holds many surprises. She is cautious around doors, windows, stairs, the phone, the TV, but is slowly settling into these indoor wonders.

Callie is very food-motivated and eager to learn. She is learning so many new commands -- sit, stay, and down, and is working on housebreaking. She already walks well on leash, but must be controlled around prey. Family is most important to Callie; she stays as close to her humans as allowed.

She’d love to be welcomed into bed or onto the couch for snuggle time, but settles for a crate and dog bed. She can be a bit possessive and does not like sharing her humans or food with other dogs. She will resource guard food and grumbles when resident canines get between her and her foster parents. For this reason, it would be best for her to be the only dog in the household. She has so much love to give; there is no need for any other furries! She is ready to give all of her love to a new family. Will that be you?

Interested in adopting this dog? Visit our website (http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org) to fill out an application and to find out where this dog may be shown this weekend.

We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog. Come to the show to find out if this dog is the right fit for you — it's helpful to bring all family members and current dogs.

Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don’t know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess.

Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Questions? Email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org. Hope to see you become part of the SCCR family!
