Callie's Story
Hi, I’m Callie. I am a beautiful 40 lb., shepherd mix girl, about a year and a half old (I was born sometime in January, 2010) who ended up at BARC (a high kill shelter) as a puppy. Fortunately for me, my adorable little puppy face and sweet eyes did not go unnoticed and I was rescued from BARC. I was fostered then adopted by a family and I thought they would provide me with a “forever home.” I even had my own little girl who loved me. Unfortunately, as puppies do, I grew up. The people who adopted me decided that I was “too large” and “too much to handle” and instead of working with me (I must say I am a very smart girl) and getting me training they would leave me alone for long periods of time. I was left outside in the back yard alone. I needed love, attention and structure, something they could not provide for me. You know what they say, “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade!” Now that I am out of that terrible situation, I know I will find a better life with someone who loves me, will let me be their companion forever and be a true member of their family! I am social and have interacted with dogs from Jack Russell terriers to large golden retrievers. I am not sure whether I like cats (but I don’t chase squirrels like some dogs do so maybe cats won’t interest me either). I am very athletic, love being petted, and love my toys. I also love long walks and would be a great running partner. I do well on a leash and am currently getting some basic training. I am vaccinated, spayed and microchipped and fully healthy!
I am in boarding at the moment and although it beats the alternative (a shelter) I am lonely and very much ready to be in a great permanent home with someone who will give me the love, care and attention I need. If you are not sure you are ready to make a permanent commitment, please consider fostering me so I can learn what it’s like to be in a great home and be a pampered pet!
My beautiful brown eyes, smiling face, upright ears and golden fur are gorgeous! Please visit www.redcollar.org to learn how to foster or adopt me. Thanks!
