Callahan's Story

CALLAHAN LOOKING FOR HIS MATCH
Callahan is a 40lb mixed breed (likely Heeler/Kelpie/Shepherd). He is one of those dogs who just fits the outdoors. He's an exceptional hiking partner with great recall, a good nose, and a calm, steady rhythm on acreage or in the woods.
He's wonderful with adults and older kids. Around babies and toddlers, Callahan simply prefers space. He doesn't escalate but will give a warning & remove himself to his bed, a spare room, or outside. With a toddler now in his home, its clear he'd be happiest somewhere without very young children in his daily environment.
Callahan has lived comfortably with his brother and does well with other dogs. He enjoys herding style play, reads other dogs well, and settles nicely once the excitement is over. Indoors, he's clean, quiet, and gravitates toward his safe spots. He was crate-trained as a puppy and may settle well back into that structure.
Hes social in familiar spaces, good with visitors, and easygoing at gatherings. He tolerates a harness and leash but isnt a polished sidewalk-walking dog; he's built for off-trail exploring, not city paths. Car rides are fun.
He is neutered, fully vaccinated, and ready for placement.
Ideal Home
Adults or families with older children
Active lifestyle hiking, exploring, shed hunting
Someone who appreciates a sensitive dog who manages his own space well
Callahan is loyal, smart, sensitive, and deeply bonded to his people. He deserves a home that matches who he is steady, outdoorsy, and low-pressure.
HOW TO ADOPT
We use a conversation, matchmaking process to make sure each animal is placed safely and appropriately.
Fill out our Matchmaking Form
This helps us understand your home, lifestyle, and what you're looking for.
Reference Checks
We speak with your vet (if you have one) and personal references.
Conversation & Fit Review
We talk through your home setup, expectations, and what Callahan needs to thrive.
Meet & Greet
If everything aligns, we schedule a meet so you can spend time with him.
Our goal is always a stable, longterm placement where both the adopter and the animal succeed.

Pet Connection Rescue & Sanctuary's Adoption Policy
All potential adopters must complete a matchmaking form so we can pair the right pet with the right home. Just because you’re drawn to a pet’s appearance doesn’t mean it’s the best fit for your household. We don’t believe in no-barrier adoptions—references will be checked, and each potential adopter will go through a thorough interview. Adopters will be pre-approved before meeting any pets. Since we’re volunteer- and foster-based, all of our pets live in our homes.
