Cafe (foster-to-adopt)

CAFE is a drop-dead gorgeous dog who has a zest for life that is 100% matched by his impressive size and stature. He often meets new people with high excitability and with his size, this can seem a bit overwhelming, but our wonderful kennel staff and trainers have given Cafe a stellar set of skills to help him be best dog he can be! Cafe knows many commands, and will happily SIT, LAY DOWN, HAND-TOUCH, GO TO PLACE, COME. He has been taught and reinforced for all these skills with praise, food, and affection and responds very well to all 3!<br/><br/>What we notice is that Cafe often does not respond to with a great deal of comfort right off the bat to excessive handling, being forced into any situation like a car/kennel without some patience and fear-free based training games. This is very typical for dogs who have had long stays in kennel life as the frustration and inevitable boredom and can sometimes overwhelm a dogs ability to cope in some situations. Cafe has recently made tremendous strides in all areas of his behavior and amazing sociability with humans which has been wonderful to see. All he needs now is an experienced home with a fenced in yard or long walks in quiet areas, chill out place, no little humans or other dogs so he can be set up for BEST success which he deserves on so many levels.<br/><br/>Since we would like Cafe to be matched in a home properly, he is ONLY available for foster-to-adopt where you will be connected with our behavior team weekly to help suggest best daily routines for everyone to acclimate and keep communication open about how his transition is going. It can be tough sometimes for us to put this boy back in his kennel room because he attaches and adores being around people and also has a good healthy energy level, so he is on our high priority list for a foster home!<br/><br/>**This dog is part of another wonderful partner rescue in NY, and is adoptable to a larger distance from us than normal - within a few hour distance from Rochester, NY, and between Rochester and NYC area and closer to the NY tri-state area. These dogs will make great additions to the perfect home and the two rescues are working together to help give them the very best shot. Teamwork at its best!**<br/><br/>Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available.<br/><br/>IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience.<br/><br/>PLEASE NOTE: If a dog is listed as Adoptable, he or she is still available at that time. Also, our adoption area is within a several hour radius of us in Rochester, NY (Canada within 3 hours IS allowed, except that young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination to cross the border - usually around 16 weeks)
