Cade's Story

If you’re drawn to the quiet, soulful ones… Cade will steal your heart.

Cade came to us in early October with his sister, Jane, through no fault of their own. Since arriving, both have grown tremendously — learning to trust, to relax, and to understand that they are safe and cared for.

Cade is the more timid sibling, but give him just a few patient, gentle minutes and you’ll see who he really is: incredibly sweet, playful, and eager to connect. Once he knows you’re kind, he settles in beautifully.

And when he crinkles his forehead? It’s game over. 💛

At approximately 2 years old (born 5/1/23), this handsome Shar-Pei / Rhodesian Ridgeback mix is:

✔️ Totally house trained
✔️ Good with other dogs
✔️ Good with kids 10+
✔️ Healthy and ready for his next chapter

If you have a dog at home, bring them for a meet-and-greet at the shelter so we can make sure everyone feels comfortable. Cade has done well with other dogs here.

He eats well, enjoys his exercise, and is blossoming more every day. What he truly needs now is a patient, loving home where he can continue building confidence at his own pace.

Cade and Jane can absolutely be adopted separately — they are not a bonded pair — but if someone chose to bring them home together, we would be over the moon.

This pretty, soulful boy is ready for someone to see him for who he is: gentle, loving, and full of quiet potential.

Come meet Cade. 💛

Please remember ALL dogs and cats once adopted need time to decompress in your home. Focus on creating a calm, safe, and structured environment to help them adjust. Take it slow. This gives you time to get to know their true personality, plus for them to get used to their new home and routine. Thank you!
Stop by to fill out an adoption application and spend as much time as you like with our dogs. We do not adopt first come; we always select the best placement for our animals. Please call your veterinarian to permit them to speak with us for our vet check. If you rent, bring proof (lease/contract) that you are allowed to have a dog. If you have a dog at home, a meet-and-greet will be scheduled for the second visit. We offer a free session with our trainer, Canine Cooperative, once an adoption is finalized.

Our adoption fee is $150 for dogs. This includes heartworm and Lyme testing, flea/tick preventatives, deworming, age-appropriate vaccines, and spay/neuter if six months or older. If they are too young, we require a $50 deposit that will be refunded upon proof that the pet has been altered.

For more info on our shelter and available pets, check us out online:

West Milford Animal Shelter Society
Lycosky Drive, West Milford, NJ 07480
(973) 728-2859

Visiting Hours
Mon - Fri: 10a - 1p
Wed Night: 7:30p - 9p
Weekends: 10a - 3p
