Cade's Story
Cade came to us with Jane (they are siblings) released to us early October, through no fault of theirs. These two have become very trusting of all the volunteers who take care of them. Cade is the more timid one, but is great and comfortable with you once he spends a few minutes getting to know you are loving. HE has such a sweet personality and wants to play. Totally house trained, ok with other dogs. Cade is so adorable when he crinkles his forehead...He is approx 2 y/o born 5/1/23 and ok with other dogs & kids Cade can be adopted to a family with kids 10+ yrs old. If you have a dog, bring him/her to have a meet-and-greet at the shelter to see if they can live together. He eats all his food, is healthy and getting some exercise as they all need! Cade's a pretty boy and needs a patient loving owner. We all are working our loving magic on him... His sister, Jane, she has come out of her shell quicker. We would LOVE if they were adopted together but it is not necessary. these two are not a bonded pair, they can be adopted separately. IF they got a home together - that's GREAT too!

Please remember ALL dogs and cats once adopted need time to decompress in your home. Focus on creating a calm, safe, and structured environment to help them adjust. Take it slow. This gives you time to get to know their true personality, plus for them to get used to their new home and routine. Thank you!
Stop by to fill out an adoption application and spend as much time as you like with our dogs. We do not adopt first come; we always select the best placement for our animals. Please call your veterinarian to permit them to speak with us for our vet check. If you rent, bring proof (lease/contract) that you are allowed to have a dog. If you have a dog at home, a meet-and-greet will be scheduled for the second visit. We offer a free session with our trainer, Canine Cooperative, once an adoption is finalized.

Our adoption fee is $150 for dogs. This includes heartworm and Lyme testing, flea/tick preventatives, deworming, age-appropriate vaccines, and spay/neuter if six months or older. If they are too young, we require a $50 deposit that will be refunded upon proof that the pet has been altered.

For more info on our shelter and available pets, check us out online:

West Milford Animal Shelter Society
Lycosky Drive, West Milford, NJ 07480
(973) 728-2859

Visiting Hours
Mon - Fri: 10a - 1p
Wed Night: 7:30p - 9p
Weekends: 10a - 3p
