Cabo's Story

FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks!

---

Meet Cabo. He is a 3 year old standard poodle. He was originally adopted out of Tacoma Humane - turned in as an owner surrender. A year later, that adopter had a change of life and couldn't keep him and provide the care he needed. She reached out to Save-A-Mutt to find him a home.

As a poodle, his adopter MUST be prepared to include grooming in their budget. He was recently clipped, and treated for an ear infection because of the lack of care. We also had him visit our veterinarian to follow up with the infection and his ears and eyes looked great.

Cabo is a reserved, but friendly boy. He's loves new people and could use some training with manners - as he is a 'hugger.' Meaning he's a bit jumpy, his foster has been working on that. He is a bit stand-offish with dogs that are too energetic, but as you can see by the video, the resident Aussie is VERY much over the top, and they have learned to have a good time playing. He's only about 60#.

We think his ideal home has a large fenced yard, time to take him for walks. He's not super active, but enjoys rides in the car and adventures. He pretty much ignores the 3 year old child in the home, but we think older children would be a better fit. He's a little intense with foster's cat, so we think a feline free home is best. Cabo is a good boy, he has had a lot of change and we are making sure e goes to his forever home this time!

This dog is neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated. Cabo is housebroken.

The 3-3-3 rule is a guideline for transitioning a rescue dog into its new home and helping it to settle in. It suggests that the first three days should be used for adjusting to its new surroundings, the next three weeks for training and bonding, and the first three months for continued socialization and training.

Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption.

Adoptions typically take place in Stanwood.
Adoption fee is $325. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible.

Save-A-Mutt is a foster based rescue, we do not have a facility to visit. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sunday’s to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make exceptions only with the approval of the foster home.

Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We don’t ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your puppy.

Save-A-Mutt is a Foster Based rescue. All our dogs are in foster homes, there is no facility to visit. All adopters are required to fill out an application. As we review the application, we may have questions - and prefer email to ask/answer them. So please check your email regularly. We may remove adoptable animals off of Petfinder while we work on applications - but will contact you to let you know. We like to have one good app per pet as not to disappoint people. It can take a couple days to finish an application, depending on your references, etc. Please let your references know that will be sending emails - they sometime go to junk mail. We enjoy open communication, but we are a volunteer organization, so please be patient. Once we receive all the information we need, we will schedule a phone interview, home check, etc. Thank you and we will be in touch! Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sunday’s to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make acceptions only with the approval of the foster home.
