Meet Buttons

Meet Buttons, a 2 year old Australian Cattle Dog. Buttons was rescued from a shelter down south and not a lot is known about her life before being rescued. Buttons is a very fearful dog. She will “pancake” when you come near her and either run away, or roll over with her tail tucked. Buttons craves love, but shies away from people. She currently has no interest in any toys and will run away from balls tossed her way, even slow moving grounders. Buttons gets excited when its time to dinner, but will not eat if you are in the same room with her. At least, this is where we started out at.

Now let me tell you where we are. Buttons still has her fear issues, but now she will “sit pretty” for me when I am putting the leash on her to go for a walk. She starts out behind me, but when I turn, she has 2 front paws on the ground and a butt on the floor. Buttons was not housebroken when she came to me, but within 2 weeks we were 100% good to go. She will now jump up on the bed and come within reach for petting, but no smooches yet. Buttons gets along with her foster brother and sisters, but is pretty indifferent to them. She is also indifferent when it comes to the cat. Of course, being a typical cattle dog, she will be in whatever room her person is. Buttons will get my shoes and carry them to her dog bed, or the couch:-), but she doesn’t chew them. It's just her taking comfort in my scent. When we go for walks, Buttons is never far from me, but still walks behind me. If I stop, bend down and put my open hand out, she will come up to give me soft!
"snoot boop" and relax to be petted.

Buttons has come so far and now needs her forever person. She needs someone who is patient and has the time to work with her. Someone who can make the commitment to socialize her and continue her journey on gaining confidence. She reminds me so much of my personal dog who was under socialized and neglected until she was saved, fostered, and eventually made her way to me at the age of 4. She is my super smart protector and constant companion. I love her to death and know she loves me too. Buttons is looking for the same. Please consider this beautiful baby.

Buttons is up to date on all vaccinations and preventatives. She is being fostered near Pittsburgh, PA.
