Butterfly's Story

Butterfly came to us as an owner surrender with very little history, so we’ve been spending the last week getting to know her. She weighs around 25 pounds, is recently spayed, and heartworm negative. We believe she may be a 2 yr old, large Shih Tzu mix, though she looks just like a miniature Old English Sheepdog.<br/>Dogs that are surrendered often go through a decompression period while adjusting to all the changes in their lives, and Butterfly has been taking things at her own pace. She is a sweet, gentle girl with a very calm personality, usually content to lounge nearby and quietly watch the world around her. While she isn’t overly expressive yet, she’ll often give us a soft tail wag and seems happy just being close. We think she’s simply a laid-back dog who enjoys a slower pace and is still settling into her new routine.

Humane Society of Harrison County's Adoption Policy
An adoption application MUST be completed prior to an adoption. This document can be found on our web page www.hshc-paws.org at the bottom of the webpage under quick links. We will need time to process these applications, so if you are coming from out of town, please send them in ahead of your visit. Animals too young for spaying or neutering may NOT be adopted outside of Harrison County, and we can not respond to inquiries asking for exceptions. No pet that has not been altered will be adopted outside of our county due to Texas State law requiring all pets to be altered that come from a shelter or rescue. If they are to young we will adopt out locally so they can be brought back for surgery when they are old enough. Dog adoptions are $100 plus a $50.00 deposit for a spay/neuter surgery. Total adoption fee $150.00. Once the surgery is completed and we receive paperwork back from the veterinarian's office, we will refund you back your deposit. Cat adoptions are $65.00 plus a $35.00 deposit for a spay/neuter surgery. Total adoption fee $100.00. Once the surgery is completed and we receive paperwork back from the veterinarian's office, we will refund you back your deposit.
