Buttercup's Story

Meet Buttercup!

This absolute angel recently came to AFRP from San Jose Animal Services in some need of TLC! After a great groom and a wellness exam, this girl is ready to find her furever home!

Buttercup is an absolute love bug who would be happiest curled up right beside her favorite person. This sweet Shih-Tzu is a true cuddle buddy and loves being close to her people. Whether she's snuggled up next to you or simply following you around the house, Buttercup just wants to be where her person is!

We have never met a happier dog than Buttercup and you cannot help but smile when you see her adorable trot! She is a social dog and is happy to be around other dogs, but people are definitely her "happy place" and she has not met a lap that she does not think is ready made for her.

While we are still learning more about Buttercup, we know she has diminished hearing, although is not fully deaf. This may be from a traumatic injury suffered before being turned into the shelter or it could be genetic. This hasn't dampened her spirits and it is something that an adopter can work on with her through training (and we have a wonderful trainer that can help!). A home with a patient adopter, or a home with another dog buddy, to help her navigate her world will help her immensely.

Buttercup has proven to do well with another pup her size, and she has been exposed to cats. With her diminished hearing, though, she would do best in a no-cat home as stealthy cats may startle her and cause her to give chase. She would love to find a home with adult adopters or families that have dog-savvy children over the age of 6 at this time.

If you're looking for a little shadow with a big heart and an even bigger love for snuggles, Buttercup might just be your perfect match!

Interested in Buttercup?
