Buttercup's Story

THIS BEAUTIFUL MISS WOULD LIKE YOUR ATTENTION, PLEASE! All of it, as a matter of fact! Buttercup is on the lookout for someone who wants a sweet, affection-loving companion and has some time to devote to hanging out with her and giving pets. She is smart, playful and sweet, but not boring! She has a quirky personality, and she would love for you to understand and appreciate that about her!

The AKC describes Belgian Malinois not only as smart, but also as: a world-class worker who forges an unbreakable bond with their human partner. To deny a Mal activity and the pleasure of your company is to deprive them of their very reasons for being. Buttercup definitely fits that description, especially if the 'hard-working' part is defined as getting all your love.

She does love other things in life besides her people...she loves toys, she loves to play, she likes to watch out for crawling and flying things, she loves to run and be chased, and she loves to lounge. When she is done with a play session, her favorite thing is to flop into the cushy chair near her crate to wait for apré play pets. Her Off-Switch is highly developed!

Buttercup came to us after being found as a stray in the Bay Area. Staff at the San Jose Animal Care Center noted her high energy and love for her ball (which is exactly what we look for). They also noted her outgoing personality and friendliness, which are a bonus. All of it was intriguing enough for us to snap her up for our search dog training program. Ultimately, she did not have the focus for a working dog, as she tended to be hypervigilant to her surroundings and very distracted by other nearby creatures, especially dogs, so she is now looking for a more comfortable situation (one with cushy chairs!)

She did live with a trainer and another dog for a short time in San Jose, and the Care Center reported pleasant meetings with other dogs, however, she has been very iffy with other dogs in our environment, especially while on leash.

If you have experience with the breed and/or training, you may be able to unlock some hidden potentials in her, but otherwise we would recommend she is an only dog and is not expected to socialize with other dogs (no dog parks, etc.) and because of her propensity to chase other furry and feathered creatures, no cats either.

She has the capacity to be an especially wonderful friend who really really really wants to love you and vice versa.
