Burt & Ernie Southern Chi chis Chihuahua New York, NY

These 2 little 4y 10lb boys were part of a hoarding situation with over 200 dogs:( They are understandably scared of people but are warming up to us slowly. We are looking to place them in a home with another dog, a yard, and patient people--no children due to their being timid, great with other dogs and prefer to women over men. Please apply to foster if you can help one or both, or better still to adopt.

Burt and Ernie are the sweetest boys you will ever meet! While both are a bit shy, they each have memorable personalities. Burt (black and fawn) is a very vocal dog and will let you know how he is feeling. He is a big foody and loves treats and will run outside any chance he gets. He does get dry eye sometimes, so a quick lubricated wipe and eye drops will help with the comfort. Ernie (tan) is very shy, but when he gets outside he is a happy puppy. He loves to be chased and will always be the first one up in the mornings when he knows it is time to go outside or get a yummy breakfast. Though shy he warms up to you quickly. He gets a little jealous if Burt gets pets and kisses, so make sure to share the love too.
A big backyard will be ideal in their development and a companion is needed to make sure they get comfortable with new their home. Keeping them occupied with a fluffy slipper and treats will keep them as happy as can be. Ernie is very curious and will come up to you to enjoy new smells, but Burt will need extra patience to be comfortable.
All and all, both pups are great companions to have have around and are ready to take in all the love that you can offer.

All our dogs are in NY/NJ area generally and can be adopted out of state depending on where, we prefer to meet our adopters but occasionally transport can be arranged.

Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on Saturdays and Sundays, weather dependent--please ask by writing us at dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application by Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.

Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate!
