Meet Bumper

Meet Bumper, an approximately 3-year-old male Chihuahua who was born around the end of 2018. He became a Misfit in August when he was “bumped” by a car, and a witness scooped him up for medical care. Thankfully it was a soft bump ‘cause he is one tiny guy. However, enough damage was done to his right eye that it had to be removed. Then it was discovered that he was heartworm positive, so he had to endure the treatments for that. This pet is neutered, up to date on all age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, heart-worm negative (Yay!), and micro-chipped!

At the present time Bumper has no special needs except Love! He is now a healthy boy and the loss of the eye certainly hasn’t slowed him down.

He likes to bark at cats but they are all bigger than him so we don’t know that it would go further. It might just take some time for social interaction. We don’t think he had been exposed to them before coming into our program. It is a joy to see him bounce around with such confidence in his foster home, with so many canine brothers and sisters, he loves them all. He does love people, and should be good with kids, but because of his tiny size, probably older kids who would be more aware of his fragility.

Bumper is almost completely house trained. As long as the schedule is kept to, he has no accidents. He goes out first thing in the morning (he sleeps in a kennel at night and is very content there), several times during the day, and then at bedtime.

He is a social little guy. He is a real good snuggle buddy, up under the blanket with his human or on their chest. He has taken to all the other fosters in his foster home. Bumper is a good eater, and it is easy to overfeed him because his is so small you just don’t think that little bit of food could possibly be enough! He likes his treats too, of course. He has never had a problem about staying in his kennel for extended times. He had to have kennel rest after his eye surgery and then again after the heartworm treatments, and it became his “safe place.” He is such a joy to watch bounce around. In his mind, he is king of the household! His favorite place, though, is probably on a lap.
