Buddy's owner in Waterloo, Iowa is elderly and had to go to a care facility to live. Buddy is now a Waverly Pet Rescue dog and lives in a foster home. He is neutered, up to date on shots, and heartworm negative.

Buddy is a Maltipoo and 6-1/2 years old as of March 2024. He weighs 14 pounds right now.

So we got Buddy yesterday. He is very sweet and does like to sit beside you on the couch. Buddy was an only dog his whole life, so joining our pack is an adjustment. A little confused and not quite sure what’s going on. He had some issues with our other dogs for a while seems to have gotten over that. He wasn’t interested in eating last night but I know that will change. Buddy does like to bark and was told he was a runner so a fenced in yard is required to adopt Buddy. He will also need to be groomed often to keep him from getting matted.

Buddy's doing great and enjoying learning how to play with the other dogs. Only took a few days for this to happen! He is not a fan of being in a kennel. He is used to sleeping with his previous owner at night, so we have been letting him and he does great and no accidents. Buddy is a wonderful dog. His previous owner loved Buddy a lot. Buddy needs someone who is home a lot and can pamper him like he deserves.

2/4/24 UPDATE: Buddy might mark in a new home at first. This is normal for a new dog in a new home. This stops within a couple of days in being in a new home. Buddy's foster mom and dad used a belly band on him when he first arrived, and he didn't have any accidents and no marking. Buddy does really well with other dogs unless they try to invade his space. Then he has a light growl and sometimes jumps down from the couch/chair and that where it ends as usually it’s the other dogs wanting to play so as soon as he gets down, he figures it out. He should meet your dog before adoption. You must also be willing to follow our Canine Adoption Guide on how to bring a new dog home and set things up properly. We can email the guide if anyone wants to read it ahead of time. (Basically, you keep him on a leash at first. Do not let up on furniture or your bed until he knows you are the pack leader, not him) Buddy would love to be an only dog, your one and only. But again, he has proven in his foster home he can do well with another dog too.

Buddy: $250.00 adoption fee.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $350 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
