Meet Brooks

UPDATE as of July 17th: Whoa! Brooks is a popular pup! Because of the considerable interest in him, we are no longer accepting new applications.

Hello, Brooks here! I am a confident/snuggly/quirky male Yorkie mix. The vet estimates me at 10 years old, but I still have lots of life left!

I love being near you; my favorite spot is your lap and at 16 pounds, I’m the perfect size! I admit I am wary of men — I have accepted and trust Foster Mom’s dad but it took me a while. Don’t rush me and just let me take my own sweet time. My house manners are good: I am mostly housebroken, I don’t chew what is not mine, and I am not yappy. At night I like to sleep in bed or next to the bed on the floor. One sincere request: no crate please! I hate the crate and will bark until I get out. But since I’m trustworthy why would I need one? I confess I’ve had just a couple of accidents but I was trained on pee pads, so if you go out for longer than usual, put one down and I’ll use it if I need to. End of problem.

I like other dogs but am a little too adult for playing. I like being around them and napping with them, even walking with them makes me happy, but not playing. Personally, I like squeaky/squishy toys — don’t be surprised if I take one with me on our walks. Sometimes I just need a buddy to walk with. I like to sniff and explore and goodness knows a good squirrel or bird chase in the backyard sure does feel good.

We also need to discuss the fact that I can be touchy. Sometimes if you pet me on a sensitive spot (not your fault, you don't know), I may snap at you. It’s kind of a reflex; maybe a training professional can help us understand why I do this and correct this problem. A home with adults or older children would be fine but little kids are too unpredictable for me.

What would make me happiest is a true human friend. Someone to cuddle, to trust, to love. Might that be you?

Interested in adopting this dog? Visit our website (http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org) to fill out an application and to find out where this dog may be shown this weekend.

We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog. Come to the show to find out if this dog is the right fit for you — it's helpful to bring all family members and current dogs.

Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don’t know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess.

Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Questions? Email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org. Hope to see you become part of the SCCR family!
