Brooklyn's Story
Meet Brooklyn!

This tiny Yorkie nugget came to us after being surrendered to a rural county shelter—something we’re unfortunately seeing more often as families face tough economic decisions. We’re so glad we had space to bring Brooklyn into rescue and help her find the loving forever home she deserves.

Brooklyn has been settling into her foster home with Debbie, her teenage son, and their two dogs—and she’s doing great! She integrated very easily with the resident pups, showing no signs of dominance and getting along well with everyone. She would thrive in a home with another dog for companionship, though she could also do well as an only dog if her person is home often—Brooklyn loves being close to her humans and feels most secure when she’s not alone.

She’s also cat-friendly and has shown no interest in chasing, just the occasional curious glance.

Brooklyn is a fun mix of active and snuggly. She enjoys walks and keeps up with the bigger dogs despite her tiny legs! She can be playful and will engage in a little fetch, though she sometimes needs encouragement with toys. Around the house, she’s happiest curled up next to her person or in a cozy lap.

She can be a bit shy when meeting new people and may need a little time to warm up. Initially, she feels unsure and can feel frightened, but once she feels safe, her sweet, cuddly personality really shines through. She’ll alert you when someone is at the door, but with reassurance, she warms up quickly and becomes comfortable with visitors.

Brooklyn walks nicely on a leash and enjoys pack walks, typically following the lead of other dogs. She may bark briefly when passing other dogs, but is not reactive.

She is crate-trained and sleeps through the night, sometimes even choosing to go into her crate on her own. Brooklyn is still working on potty training, but can hold it all night without accidents. She will do best with an adopter who has a flexible schedule to provide frequent potty breaks and can maintain a consistent routine.

Brooklyn is looking for a loving home where she can continue to build confidence and enjoy the companionship she craves. With a little time and reassurance, she will reward her family with endless affection and loyalty.

Apply today!

BEED ESTIMATE: Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie)
GENDER: Female
APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 6.5 lbs
APPROXIMATE AGE: ~2 years old
COAT TYPE: longer coat that needs regular grooming.
ADOPTION FEE: $425
OTHER INFO: UTD on shots/neutered/microchipped
LOCATION: Alexandria, VA

FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application.

You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted.
