Brooklyn's Story

Meet Brooklyn

Brooklyn is a 7-year-old, 18 lb Yorkshire Terrier with a gentle soul and so much love to give. After coming from a difficult past, he's showing just how resilient and affectionate he truly is; and he's ready to find a home where he can keep blossoming.

This sweet boy is the definition of calm companionship. Brooklyn is happiest curled up next to you on the couch or trotting alongside you on a leisurely walk (his favorite activity!). He has a low energy level overall, but don't be surprised when he lights up at the sight of a leash or a squeaky toy—those are instant joy triggers.

Brooklyn is fully house trained and an excellent sleeper—he settles in easily at night, sleeps quietly, and is happy to wake up on your schedule. He's also a breeze on leash, making him a great match for someone who enjoys relaxed neighborhood strolls.

Because of his past, Brooklyn forms strong attachments to his people and can feel unsettled around the process of being left alone. He's currently building confidence with departures and will need a home that can continue that work with patience and consistency. He settles quickly once he is alone, but he is anxious when he sees his people leaving. He would do best with an adopter who has a flexible schedule, spends a good amount of time at home, or is able to include him in daily routines whenever possible.

Brooklyn also appreciates clear boundaries and a respectful approach, especially around high-value items like toys. With thoughtful management and guidance, he continues to make progress and learn that he doesn't need to worry about protecting what's his. On walks, he can sometimes feel overwhelmed by unfamiliar sights or sounds, but he responds well to calm handling and support from his person.

When it comes to people, Brooklyn just needs a little time to feel safe. Having come from a previous hoarding situation with many other animals, the world can still feel a bit unpredictable to him at times. Sudden appearances can startle him, so he does best with slow, respectful introductions where he can see new friends coming. Once he knows you, though, his true personality shines: affectionate, cuddly, and completely devoted.

Brooklyn loves being the pack leader when it comes to other dogs, so would do well as the only dog in the home, or possibly with another dog that is introduced after he's established himself in his new home. He will thrive in a patient, understanding home that sees his progress, celebrates his wins, and is committed to continuing his journey. He doesn't need perfection, just someone willing to meet him where he is.

Brooklyn doesn't need much—just a cozy spot to snuggle, a few squeaky toys, and someone who will meet him with kindness and understanding. In return, you'll get a loyal little companion who will stick by your side and remind you every day just how special second chances can be.

Brooklyn at a Glance

7 years old, 18 lbs, male (neutered) Yorkshire Terrier
Low energy, calm and affectionate
House trained & great overnight sleeper
Loves walks and squeaky toys
Benefits from slow introductions to new people
Looking for a patient, loving home to continue building confidence
