You have encountered Briley, a 3-year-old, 57-pound female Golden Retriever who came to PPFT after her owner was no longer able to keep her. Briley would like everyone to know that while this transition was not part of her original life plan, she has reviewed the situation and decided she is willing to move forward under one very important condition: She will need to be included in everything from now on. Please familiarize yourself with the following operating instructions before attempting to become Briley's person.<br/><br/>Briley believes every emotionally stable adult should have a coping mechanism. Some people journal. Some meditate. Some go to therapy. Briley carries around a squeaky slipper. She almost always has an emotional support toy in her mouth, but the squeaky slipper is currently the crown jewel of her collection. And she doesn't simply play with it. She presents it. Hello. Have you seen my slipper? Yes, Briley. We saw it 45 seconds ago. Okay, but have you seen it recently? Expect regular slipper demonstrations throughout the day. Compliments are encouraged. Acting sufficiently impressed may become part of your contractual obligations. Briley wants to be close to her people at all times. Not necessarily doing anything. Just...there. You're cooking? Briley supervises. You're watching TV? Briley is available. You're walking into another room for seven seconds? Interesting. Where are we going? She is incredibly affectionate and happiest when she's near her people, so anyone looking for a dog who quietly disappears into another room for six hours should probably continue browsing. When it comes to saying hi, Briley has apparently developed her own patented greeting. She gently comes up, wraps her front legs around your hips, and squeezes. It's a hug. An actual dog hug. Which seems like an unreasonable amount of emotional manipulation from a Golden Retriever, but here we are. <br/><br/>Briley's ideal home isn't really about whether her humans are a family, a couple, or a single person. She's flexible on the organizational structure. Her primary requirement is simply: Are there humans there? And are those humans interested in Briley? Because Briley is all about her people. She'd love active humans who enjoy walks, hikes, hanging out in the yard, and generally including their dog in whatever they're doing. With an energy level around 7/10, she's definitely not looking to spend her entire existence auditioning for the role of decorative Golden Retriever. A securely fenced yard is a must for Briley. She loves running around, sniffing, exploring, and conducting regular investigations into whether any rabbits have made the catastrophic mistake of entering her jurisdiction. There's also one small logistical matter: Briley is potty trained, but she has apparently decided that bathroom activities shall not occur while attached to a leash. She has yet to potty on one and actually appreciates having someone outside with her for a little moral support. Briley is potty trained, doesn't chew things she shouldn't, doesn't need to be kenneled, and currently free roams when her foster is away. She knows sit and leave it, enjoys toys, and will even play fetch. For all her enthusiasm and big Golden personality, Briley is also sensitive. If she feels cornered or thinks she's in trouble, she can cower and nervous pee. Giving Briley some space, walking away, and then calling her usually works. She wants very badly to please her people, so she needs humans who understand that she responds best to patience, reassurance, and positive guidance, not intimidation or harsh corrections. Give her a second to realize everything is okay, and she'll come to you. Probably carrying a squeaky slipper. Briley could happily live with a single person, couple, or family. Another dog is perfectly fine, but definitely not required. What she really wants is an active home with a securely fenced yard, daily walks, plenty of affection, and humans who genuinely want their dog involved in their lives. <br/><br/>Briley is perfectly fine with other dogs. She's submissive, non-reactive, and has shown absolutely no resource guarding. Does she desperately want a canine sibling? Absolutely not. When she arrived at her foster home, her foster sister enthusiastically offered friendship. Briley declined to acknowledge receipt of the application. For three full days. Eventually, Briley decided she might as well give this "playing with another dog" thing a try and proceeded to play HARD. She'll still play occasionally when the mood strikes, but most of the time? Her foster sister is essentially a piece of furniture that breathes. Her foster sister has even stolen Briley's toy and tried to entice her into a chase. Briley: "You can have it." So Briley can absolutely live with another dog, but adopters shouldn't choose her because they're searching for a BFF for their current pup. She may occasionally clock in for a shift at Dog Friendship Incorporated, but her primary social circle is human. Briley has not actually met a cat. Therefore, we cannot officially tell you how she'd do with one. However... We have seen Briley notice bunnies. And based upon the decisions she makes when a small furry creature starts fleeing from her, we're going to go ahead and say that a cat-free home would be the safer choice. Briley has been around kids ages 914 and loves them. She's sweet, affectionate, and non-reactive around them, and her foster feels she'd likely do well with children of other ages too. Basically, if you are a human who might pet Briley, your application for friendship is already looking promising. Briley LOVES walks. Her foster started taking her on two walks a day, and Briley promptly added this arrangement to the employee handbook as a permanent contractual obligation. If the evening walk is running behind schedule, management will be contacted. She does pull some, so an Easy Walk-style harness is recommended. Overall, she isn't bad on leash....until a bunny appears. Then several departments within Briley's brain temporarily shut down. BUNNY DETECTED. COMMON SENSE: OFFLINE. Briley needs some encouragement to hop into the back of the car, but once she's in, she rides nicely. There is, however, a seating requirement. She will gradually work her way as close to you as physically possible. And if the petting service becomes inadequate? She may quietly grumble. Not aggressively. More like a disgruntled customer who has been waiting at least twelve seconds for someone to acknowledge her. "Excuse me. Your hand appears to have stopped moving." Please correct the service interruption immediately.<br/><br/> THINK YOU'RE HER PERSON?<br/><br/>Excellent. Unfortunately, Briley cannot simply pack her squeaky slipper into a tiny suitcase and appear on your doorstep. Apparently there is paperwork. You'll need to fill out an adoption application for Briley first. Once received, we'll send it over to her foster family so they can review it and determine whether you're worthy of becoming the permanent recipient of Briley Hugs, mandatory evening walks, and displays of squeaky footwear.<br/><br/>And because we know someone will inevitably ask: No, we cannot ship Briley.<br/>No, Briley does not come with complimentary delivery. No, telling us you live 14 hours away does not cause a transport fairy to materialize. <br/><br/>Her adopter will need to pick her up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Yes, even if you live out of state. Consider it your first official adventure together—except on the drive home, please remember that Briley's passenger agreement clearly states that petting services are to remain operational whenever reasonably possible.<br/><br/>So if you're looking for a dog who will adore you, adventure with you, make you laugh, keep careful track of the neighborhood, and love being yours more than just about anything...<br/><br/>Fill out that application.<br/><br/>Briley has a squeaky slipper, a ridiculously waggy tail, and one of those patented hip hugs waiting for somebody. She just needs to find out who gets them forever.
