Brie's Story

** This is an Out Of Town listing. We transport to the city on this listing. Apply to adopt at www.bit.ly/mu-adopt **

Meet Brie!

When Brie first arrived at an overcrowded shelter, life had not been kind to her. She was heartworm positive, her back end was nearly bald, and she looked like she'd been through far more than any dog ever should. But Brie never gave up. With lots of love, good food, medical care, and time to heal, she has completely transformed. Her beautiful fluffy coat has grown back, and she's become an absolutely stunning girl inside and out.

Brie is around 3 year old and weighs just over 60 pounds. She's a livestock guardian breed, and if you've ever loved one of these amazing dogs, you know they're a little different... in all the best ways. They're independent thinkers, incredibly loyal, and naturally protective of the people they love. Brie isn't the kind of dog who believes every stranger is her new best friend, and that's perfectly okay. She likes to take her time, figure people out, and once you've earned her trust, you'll have a devoted companion for life.

She's done well with other dogs, though she appreciates slow introductions. Like many guardian breeds, she's thoughtful with new dogs at first but relaxes once she knows they're friendly. It would be easiest to place her in a home as an only pet, especially for out-of-state adopters whose resident dogs won't be able to meet her in advance.

We've received several applications for Brie over the past few months, and they've been ok, but most haven't had a fenced yard. We truly feel Brie will be happiest with a secure fenced yard where she can safely enjoy being outside while still coming inside to spend time with her family. We are not looking for an outdoor-only home for Brie. She wants to be part of the family, with the freedom to enjoy both indoor snuggles and outdoor adventures.

She hasn't been tested with cats, although squirrels definitely catch her attention! She also hasn't been around young children, so we'd probably recommend a home with older kids who understand how to respectfully interact with dogs.

Brie hasn't spent much of her life living inside a home, but she's done wonderfully in her kennel. She keeps her space clean, doesn't destroy her bedding, and gives us every reason to believe she'll adjust beautifully to home life with a little patience and consistency.

Because of her breed and personality, we'd love to see Brie with someone who has experience with livestock guardian breeds... or someone excited to learn about what makes them so special. They are incredibly rewarding dogs for the right family.

Apply to adopt at the link below and tell us why your home is the right one for Brie.

_______

HOW TO APPLY TO ADOPT:

Start by filling out our online application at www.bit.ly/mu-adopt

Once submitted, we will reach out to approved applicants by phone. We may also suggest other amazing dogs in our care who could be a great fit for your home.

**NOTE: Completed applications take priority over Petfinder inquiries or emails.

LOCATION & TRANSPORT:

This dog is currently in South Mississippi. Local and out-of-town adopters are welcome. For out of town adopters, we offer virtual meet-and-greets and can arrange transport to many states in the Northeast. (The $300 adoption fee includes transport to the city on this listing. Our transports run every 2-3 weeks to that location.) We cannot adopt to Rhode Island due to import restrictions.

VETTING:

All of our dogs are cleared by a licensed veterinarian for transport and arrive to their adopters spayed/neutered with age-appropriate vaccines completed and are microchipped. Note: We cannot guarantee full grown size or breed mix. Both are guesses based on physical characteristics and any known history.

To see more of the fur babies we rescue and love, follow us on Facebook: Misfits & Underdogs (www.facebook.com/misfitsunderdogs)
