Boyd's Story

I'm a 4-year-old, 76-pound Australian Shepherd/German Shepherd mix, and I just might be one of the most gentle giants you'll ever meet! I'm a calm, friendly fella with a huge heart and a handsome, shaggy mostly-black coat with white and grey/tan merle patches. My ears aren't quite sure whether they want to flop or stand up, so they decided to meet somewhere in the middle. I have big loving brown eyes with the tiniest speck of blue in one of them.😉 My story is a little bittersweet. I was dumped as a puppy on the doorstep of a very kind older woman, who took me in and gave me a wonderful life. She and I were best friends, and I was used to always having a two- or four-legged companion nearby. Unfortunately, as she has gotten older and started experiencing health problems, she had to make the incredibly difficult and selfless decision to rehome me. ❤️I haven't done anything wrong--I just need a new family who will love me as much as she did. I'm a mellow, easygoing gentleman who gets along with just about everyone. I do wonderfully with other dogs, cats, kiddos, and people of all ages, including the elderly. I'm very gentle and respectful, and I simply enjoy being near my people. I don't particularly like being alone, but I'm not destructive. I'm used to having companionship and would thrive in a home where someone is around often, or where I have another friendly furry friend to keep me company. 🐾 I'm used to living out in the middle of nowhere with plenty of room to roam, but honestly, I prefer being indoors with my people. I'm fully house trained, crate trained, and know how to use a doggie door when one is available. 🏡 I'm also a fantastic walking buddy! I walk wonderfully on a leash and enjoy taking things at a nice, leisurely pace. I love being outside with my people and would happily tag along for a peaceful stroll or adventure. Car rides are still a bit of a mystery to me. 🚗 I'm not very experienced with traveling and can be anxious, but with regular rides, patience, and a few tasty treats for bribery, I'm sure I could learn to enjoy them. It helps me feel much safer when I can see my person--and if I can rest my head or paw on your lap for reassurance, even better. 🥰 I'm a very smart and observant boy. I love learning, I'm eager to please, and I'm a wonderful listener. I already know my name, sit, paw, and down, and I'm always paying attention to what my people are doing. And if you really want to make me happy, just give me some ear scratches and belly rubs! 🥰 Those are two of my favorite things in the whole world. Mostly, though, I'm just looking for someone to love. I'm the kind of dog who wants to quietly follow you around, keep you company, and be your big, warm, shaggy shadow. ❤️If you're looking for a gentle giant, loyal companion, and incredibly sweet old soul who gets along with everyone, I might just be your guy. 📞 Call the Humane Society of the Ouachitas at 479-394-5682 to find out more about me. I can't wait to meet my next forever family! 🏡🐾
****************
All animals at HSO are current on their vaccinations and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption.
