Boots's Story
Meet Boots!
(Named after his adorable white-tipped paws!)

Boots is believed to be a shepherd/spitz mix with a beautiful warm gray coat. At approximately 12-18 months old and 50 pounds, this handsome boy still has plenty of playful puppy energy.

Boots story began in Houston, TX, where he landed on the euthanasia list at BARC after only two days as a stray due to shelter overcrowding. Terrified and avoidant of people, his chances of making it out were slim. Thankfully, Boots was given a second chance, and with time, patience, and love, he has slowly started to come out of his protective shell.

Now being fostered in St. Paul, Minnesota, Boots is learning what it means to be a loved house dog. His foster mom says hes doing wonderfully adjusting to home life! He gets along great with other dogs, reads social cues well, and would thrive in a home with another confident dog to help show him the ropes though he could also do well as an only dog.

Boots is sweet, gentle, and affectionate once he trusts you. He can be shy with new people at first, but with patience, his loving personality shines through. Sometimes he shows affection with playful little nibbles, which his foster mom is working on redirecting appropriately with chew toys and training.

This smart boy is food motivated and eager to learn. He already knows sit simply by watching the other dogs in his foster home. As a young dog still learning the rules, Boots will need continued training, supervision, and structure to help him succeed.

Boots enjoys walks, loves to play, and does have some prey drive toward squirrels and rabbits, but he settles nicely afterward and enjoys long naps too. Because hes active and intelligent, he would do best in a home with a securely fenced yard and plenty of mental and physical enrichment.

He has previously been around cats without issue and, due to his gentle nature, may also do well with respectful children given proper introductions and supervision.

Boots has come such a long way from the frightened shelter dog he once was. Now all he needs is a patient, loving family willing to help him continue building confidence and discovering how wonderful life can be.
