Boone has been a long-time resident of the Humane<br/>Society of Morgan County. He had been reportedly<br/>mistreated and eventually abandoned by his owner in<br/>2016 and found by our local Animal Control. Soon after<br/>coming to HSMC, Boone had two adoptions but was<br/>returned from each due to resource guarding and insecurities.<br/>After being returned the first time, we also began seeing<br/>resource guarding with his treats and toys and had him<br/>evaluated by behaviorist Pat Miller. Following the<br/>evaluation, we opted to place Boone on a medication<br/>called Prozac and worked on a resource guarding<br/>modification program.<br/><br/>Over time, we saw improvements in Boone. He<br/>became more affectionate and began bonding well with<br/>volunteer staff. Eventually, Boone was able to go to a<br/>foster home where he remained in a single owner's home<br/>for 1 and years. Unfortunately, his foster's own physical<br/>limitations and Boones resource guarding with his friends made it difficult to care for Boone and he felt the need to return him back to the shelter. Boone is a sweet, affectionate, and an intelligent dog who has a "definite<br/>mind of his own." He requires a special owner who will<br/>give him love, but most importantly set and keep up with<br/>consistent boundaries as he acclimates to a new home.<br/>His new owner should be experienced with larger breeds<br/>(Boone is approximately 65lbs) and those with a resource<br/>guarding history. Boone has not been on Prozac for years and has done well with just CBD, 1 time a day (2cc), to help with day-to-day shelter stress. Boone responds very well to praise for good behavior.<br/><br/>Having been recently evaluated through an animal<br/>communicator, it was felt that Boone has made strides in<br/>overcoming old behavioral challenges and is deserving of a<br/>second chance. It was recommended that we seek an<br/>owner who will be a strong presence and who will maintain<br/>consistent firm boundaries. As we learned during<br/>communication, he is looking for that kind of structure.<br/><br/>Boone longs for an unconditional human bond. He<br/>loves his daily walks and going for car rides. He has<br/>always been well behaved at vet appointments. A quieter<br/>pet free home in a rural setting would be ideal. Boone is in<br/>good health and maintains a healthy weight.
