Bodhi (fka Chip)'s Story

BODHI

Male, neutered

~10 months old

Pit Bull Terrier

40 lbs.

Microchipped, up-to-date on core vaccines and takes monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention

Good with dogs and kids; untested with cats

Bodhi was found as a stray in Prince George's County, underweight and with ears that appeared to have been cropped relatively recently. Shelter volunteers described him as so frightened that he had to be coaxed and pulled from his kennel. While little is known about his life before rescue, it's clear he hadn't been shown much kindness.

One of our favorite Bodhi moments happened at his first vet visit. The shelter estimated he was about 3 years old. He seemed younger to us, but he was so subdued when he first arrived that it was hard to tell. After examining him, the vet laughed and said, "This dog is a puppy!"—estimating him at closer to 10 months old. As Bodhi recovered from a URI and started feeling better, more of his puppy personality began to shine through. He discovered zoomies, learned the joy of chasing a ball, and enthusiastically "de-stuffs" toys, but he's still an easygoing puppy. More often than not, he's happiest curled up nearby, resting his head on your arm or leg just to stay connected. At one point, I joked that it seemed unfair that Bodhi got both the looks and the personality. From the way he follows his people around to his gentle cuddles and adorable snores, there's something incredibly sweet about him that makes it very hard not to fall in love.

A dream day for Bodhi is easy: a nice walk, some time outside people-watching or lounging in the grass, and plenty of time simply being near his people. He’s just as happy exploring as he is relaxing, and his favorite place is wherever you are.

At his core, Bodhi is all about connection. He walks nicely on leash, happily follows his people from place to place, and often chooses to curl up right between your legs or rest his head on your arm or leg just to be close. He is affectionate, gentle, and deeply people-oriented. In foster care, he was initially hesitant but quickly warmed up to a young child in the home, becoming comfortable within minutes and offering gentle, affectionate interactions. Bodhi had positive dog interactions at the shelter and seems to enjoy the presence of other dogs. He may enjoy having a canine companion to play with, though he is also perfectly content focusing his affection on his people. From the way he sticks close to his people to his sweet cuddles and quiet presence, there’s something incredibly endearing about Bodhi that makes it very hard not to fall in love. He’s a truly special pup who is just beginning to show the world who he is.

Interested in adopting?
