Bobble's Story

What I Need in a Forever Home:
An active home that is ready for a playful dog
I should be the only dog in my home, but I can have dog friends!
Teenagers are OK — no young kids
A family comfortable managing resource guarding, especially around my food bowl
A yard for me to explore
Hi, I’m Bobble! Aren’t my eyes gorgeous?!

They tell me I’m a little over a year old, but I like to think I’m the perfect age—old enough to know how to have fun and young enough to keep life exciting! I made the long trip all the way from Texas to Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue, and now I’m ready to find the family I’ve been dreaming about.

If you’re looking for a dog who loves his people, I think we should meet. One of my favorite things in the whole world is giving hugs. I’m also a professional “leaner,” which means I’ll happily lean my whole body against you while you give me pets. It’s my way of saying, “I love you.”

I’m a social guy and have made lots of canine friends here at Yankee! I really enjoy running around and playing with other playful dogs. While dog friends are great for me, I’ve shown us that I’ll be happiest as the only dog actually living in my forever home. That way, I can enjoy my canine buddies during playtime while having my own space, routine, and resources at home.

Speaking of resources, there is something important my future family should know about me. I can be protective of things I consider valuable, particularly my food bowl. This is called resource guarding, and it means my family will need to be comfortable giving me space while I eat and following good management practices around food and other high-value items. The team at Yankee can talk with my future family about what this looks like and how to help set me up for success.

I’m also a total water fan. If there’s a pool nearby, chances are you’ll find me splashing around with the biggest smile on my face. After a swim, I’m more than happy to head out for a walk. I’ve been told I have wonderful leash manners and really enjoy exploring the world by your side.

Another thing my future family should know is that I can be what’s called barrier reactive. That simply means that if I’m behind a fence, kennel door, or another barrier, I might bark or get excited because I can’t go say hello. Once the barrier is gone and I can properly meet people or dogs, I’m a completely different guy! My family just needs to understand that this is something I’m continuing to work on and not to judge me by my first impression through a fence.

Because I’m still a young, goofy boy, I can get excited and sometimes jump up or be a little mouthy when I’m having fun. I’m not trying to be rude—I just haven’t quite realized how big I am! For that reason, I’d do best in a home with teenagers rather than younger children who could get knocked over by my enthusiasm.

If you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate, playful best friend who will happily join you for adventures, cuddle up for hugs, and maybe convince you to spend a little more time by the pool, I just might be your guy. I have a few things my family will need to understand and manage, but in the right home, I have so much love and fun to give.

I can’t wait to meet my forever family. Maybe it’s you?
