Meet Blackie

11-01-20 - UPDATE FROM FOSTER MOM: Blackie has been in his foster home for a week and he is starting to come out of his shell already. He enjoys playing ball and collects toys by placing them in his doggy bed. However, Blackie does not like it if the other dogs in his foster home try to take his toys. He is getting along well with the cats in his foster home. He does not chase them and they can approach him without incident. He does not interact much with the dogs in his foster home but is comfortable curling up on the couch next to foster mom or the cat. Blackie sticks close to foster mom and follows her around the house and does not venture far from her in the yard. His personality is starting to come through and he is starting to show his spunky and playful side. He makes foster mom laugh with his unique trot! At night, Blackie sleeps in his crate and is progressing with his house-training. He does not signal when he needs to go potty but, if taken out at regular intervals, he is doing well. So far, he has not barked in his foster home.
10-15-20 - Blackie, and his brother Porky, were recently rescued from a high kill shelter after being surrendered by their owner. The previous owner had taken ill and was no longer able to care for the number of dogs in the home. We are told that Blackie had three siblings in his former home. He was very nervous when he first arrived at the shelter but is slowly learning to trust and is starting to come out of his shell. We are sure that transport will set him back a bit so a patient owner who is used to dealing with shy, timid dogs would be perfect for this little guy. A home with other small-to-medium sized dogs would also help with Blackie's confidence building. We are unsure as to how Blackie would be in a home with children or cats. But, our guess would be that younger children may be too loud and unpredictable for this timid fellow. Blackie and Porky are listed as Shepherd?? mixes and that is what they truly look like. Although it seems highly unlikely for a Shepherd mix to weigh 23 lbs. Only a DNA test will accurately determine the true breed make-up of these little ones. Blackie is about a year and a half old. He has already been neutered and he is up-to-date with his vaccinations. Blackie very recently tested negative for heart-worm disease and he is on preventatives. He is also micro-chipped. Blackie and Porky will be arriving on transport on Sunday, Oct. 25th and we are taking applications for them now. You can complete an adoption, or foster, application on our website at www.OneLifeToLiveRescue.com.. A rescue volunteer will then be in touch with you very soon to answer any questions that you might have and to tell you about our ever popular "Foster-to-Adopt" program. Blackie's recommended adoption donation is $325 to help with the cost of vet bills. Thank you for your consideration of giving a "forever" home to a wonderful, rescued, little mixed-breed guy who needs some time to settle in.
