With a birthdate of March 14, 2020, Blackberry weighs just under 40 lb. We've included a picture of his mom & dad.
Blackberry has lived his life in the yard where he was born. Although his surrendering owner said that he will chase cats, he ignores them inside the house. He wants to be where his people are and is willing to do what is needful to be allowed in the house.
Blackberry has done well learning to walk on a leash. He's affectionate and will roll over on his back for attention. He is timid and unsure of his welcome, as well as ducking his head when being petted or presented with new stimuli. What he's familiar with (leash being clipped on, pets away from other dogs, etc.) he reacts to with good natured confidence. He offered no resistance when he was carried from his home. He hasn't had any accidents in the house, and is comfy in a 42" crate to allow him room to sprawl.
Blackberry ("Bear") has been in the foster's bedroom, which is the cat room. He ignores the cats lounging on the bed and reaching out to touch him. He is happy to lay next to his people as they work or read.
April 2020: We are not holding public adoption events until further notice. Qualified families are being invited to appointments to meet specific dogs. There are currently no opportunities to view multiple dogs and adoption events aren't being held at Tractor Supply in Lenoir.
Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.
If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.
A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners without a vet history look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.
Adoption fee covers two vaccinations plus spay / neuter if using our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic (overnight stay required) and surgery occurs as agreed upon in the adoption contract. Convenience fee equal to refundable spay/neuter deposit may be required if, using our veterinarian or same-day surgery, service is scheduled through our organization. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.
We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is www.petpartnersrescue.org.
