The adopter may choose the doctor of their choice and pay for the surgery themselves. Alternatively, a spay voucher for Otterkill Animal Hospital in Maybrook, New York can be provided if you are willing to take him to this clinic for his surgery.

Requested adoption donation fee is only $900. This is to partly cover his veterinary bills and care expenses that our 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue incurred to help him.

Breed and Hair Notes

Bix has hair and not fur. He is a brown and white Shih Tzu with stunning and rare blue eyes. He is incredibly handsome and distinguished, even as a baby!

PLEASE NOTE: Bix's hair will grow as it is not fur. He will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care.

Bix has been terrific for his baths, haircuts, and nail trims.

Personality

Bix can be a playful puppy who likes to keep up with his brothers and sisters. At the same time, he is very loving and laidback one he's finished wrestling and playing with toys. We have a lot of volunteers who have come to help socialize the puppies. Bix enjoys hugs and attention from humans, and he settles into cuddles quite quickly.

Ideal Home

It is ideal for Bix to be in a home with other small dogs or cats around. He would not do well in a home as the only dog, especially if his people are gone all day at work. Families with children are case-by-case.

Bix will especially thrive in a home that can give him companionship day and night. Bix would be okay for a few hours on his own with his siblings if you provided him with puzzles and things to do while you’re away.

Plan on sharing your sofa and bedroom with Bix. He will want to be by your side, no matter where you are and what you are doing.

If you have a very secure fenced-in backyard for running and playing, this is ideal for Bix. He is going to be a little boy, even full grown. He will need exercise but not miles and miles of daily hiking like a working dog. Bix is a companion animal in the truest sense of the word. His goal is to love and be loved.

Love and Commitment

At Animal Saints Rescue Society, our goal is to keep dogs out of overcapacity animal control facilities and out of a re-homing cycle. We place the dogs we save into lifetime families. With this in mind, we seek families who understand that an adoption is a lifetime commitment. The families who adopt from us believe that love is not a feeling, it is a decision. Some humans still believe it’s okay to try out a dog for a few weeks, a few months, or even a few years — then discard when they get bored or don’t want to deal with emotional or physical ailments. We are looking for the empathetic, kind, and patient humans in this world who view these Animal Saints as family, and they will do whatever it takes to give them what they need.

Will that family be you? We look forward to finding out and receiving your application!

Animal Saints Rescue Society's Adoption Policy
A handwritten application is needed with three personal references, a veterinary reference, and a groomer reference. A list of questions is sent to all references initially, then follow-up calls are made. Phone interview with potential adopter happens once references are checked. A list of websites are visited beforehand for background check (do not adopt list, checking to see if they been involved in anything criminal by looking up court documents). In-home visits are required or photographs of where the dog will be living if they are out of town. Then, they must meet the dog in person before the official adoption happens. We have all adopters sign adoption contract in person as a ceremonial event and so they take the adoption commitment more seriously.
