Bitsy's Story

MEET BITSY!

6FT FENCE REQUIRED - FOSTERED IN PENSACOLA FL

At 1 year old and already a professional Play Coordinator, AND full-time CEO of Fun, LLC. Bitsy lives by one simple rule: the games must go on.

Always ready to play, Bitsy believes strongly in a rotational system of entertainment. When Playmate #1 taps out, she seamlessly moves on to Contestant #2… and #3… and honestly, if you have a #4 on standby, that would be ideal. Efficiency is important. She’s fantastic with dogs of all sizes and is wonderfully respectful of their boundaries. Bitsy is fostered with 2 young, ready to party Danes and an 13 year old Dane who rules the roost.

People’s boundaries?

Well… that’s more of a suggestion, right? Bitsy is a full-contact snuggler and firmly believes that the best way to love someone is to lay directly on top of them like a 100ish-lb weighted blanket that breathes and occasionally snores.

Now let’s talk about boredom. Bitsy is not a fan. ZERO/10 does not recommend. Young + energetic + nothing to do = self-assigned interior design projects!

To Bitsy’s credit, she hasn’t gone after furniture… but several rugs have been thoughtfully “rearranged” for optimal chew comfort. Foster mama saw the handwriting on the wall - shoes and other tempting items are kept in protective custody.

Because Bitsy is a creative thinker, she does not free roam when left alone. Bitsy kennels like a champ with minimal commentary! When her people are home though? Full access granted - and she handles it beautifully by thoughtfully removing EVERY toy that ever was made from the house into the yard - that is what foster mama gets for having a dog door!

Bitsy shares her home with three cats and has learned valuable life lessons - not all murder mitten furballs are created equally so act accordingly:
•One is Grumpy. Sometimes poking the grumpy bear is worth the risk.
•One is a mystical cat/dog/wraith hybrid who becomes possessed during the witching hour — 10/10 play partner.
•The last… we do not speak of. A hallway ninja capable of launching surprise attacks at any moment. Best avoided.

Bitsy is an amateur acrobat and escape enthusiast. If she gets bored and sees an opportunity, she may take her show on the road. A secure fence is a must — along with an active home and ideally a canine playmate or adventure schedule to keep her busy.

She walks on leash, shall we say, enthusiastically. She’s not pulling — she’s just very committed to the mission of Forward Movement.

Bitsy came into rescue extremely thin but is steadily returning to her fabulous Dane figure. She had recently given birth to a litter in an abandoned house - sadly, none of her pups survived the conditions. Upon arrival, she was hosting a full convention of freeloaders: whipworms, hookworms, and heartworms. Eviction notices have been served and treatment is complete. The heartworm treatment will continue doing its behind-the-scenes work for a few more months, but the squatters are officially on their way out.

Bitsy is joy, chaos, love, laughter, and just enough mischief to keep life interesting. A tired Bitsy is a good Bitsy — and a very happy one too. Can you handle this level of happiness?

Bitsy is spayed, fully vaccinated and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $400. To read over the adoption requirements before applying, please go to www.nwflgdr.com/adopt.

Please note: NWFLGDR does not transport. All approved adopters are required to pick up the dog from his or her foster.

We allow exceptions in rare medical instances upon verification with your vet only. 2. All Dogs and outdoor Cats in your home MUST be current and have been kept historically up to date on annual vaccinations and monthly (or semiannual) heartworm and flea prevention. We will call your vet to verify this. We allow exceptions to this in rare medical instances upon verification with your vet, ONLY. 3. You must be a minimum of 21 years of age to adopt and be able to prove you're financially able to care for a great dane should a medical emergency arise. 4. You must own the property in which you live or your landlord must be willing to verify that you are allowed to have a Great Dane in your rental home. We check property records.? 5. Our Great Danes require a sturdy fenced in yard, particularly young or active danes. Generally, a six-foot or higher privacy fencing is preferred. In certain circumstances, the Board may waive this requirement depending upon the Dane's personality and temperament. Any such exceptions will solely be at the discretion of the Rescue Board. Under no circumstances will we consider invisible or electric fencing as acceptable. 6. We only adopt Dogs as indoor pets. We will not adopt Dogs to be used as guard dogs or to be kept out-of-doors. 7. A home visit is required for ALL adoptions, without exception. This is not a white-glove inspection, rather it is to ensure that the home is a safe environment for the Great Dane. 8. We do not transport. If you are applying from out of area or out of state, understand that if your application gets approved, you will be expected to pick up the dane in the location that he/she is being fostered. In addition, if the adoption does not work out, it is your responsibility to bring the dane safely back to us. 9. There may be multiple applications for the same Dog. Our Great Danes are placed in the home we believe most suitable for them, based upon their individual needs and temperament. 10. Before applying below, please expect this application process to take about two weeks. If you are applying from out of area or state, please expect a slight delay. It will take us more time to get the home visit set up. At any time, if you have questions about the status of your application, please email the rescue at nwflgdr@gmail.com.
