Meet Binky

Binky is an 8 year old, 15 pound male possibly Maltese and Havanese mix who came into rescue from an NYC shelter. Though he was terrified when he first arrived, two months later he is completely comfortable, affectionate, and playful in his foster home.

As you can see, Binky loves to play with toys, and is capable of entertaining himself with them, but he also enjoys a good game of fetch with his person. Binky can also entertain himself by chasing his tail, which is as fun to watch as it is for him to do.
Binky is a strong dog, with great skills for dancing on his hind legs for treats and he has quite an impressive vertical jump!

Binky is very good with communication, and has taught his foster dad to understand him when he needs to go out, or when he is hungry, or wants to go to sleep. A creature of habit, he does like to maintain a prompt 11:30PM bedtime, but will lie quietly in his dog bed if his person keeps later hours.

Though he has come a long way since his terror at being displaced when we took him in, Binky will need a home that can both give him affection (of course) but also provide consistent training to complete his journey to becoming the amazing dog he is inside. He seems to not have been well-socialized in his earlier life, and so is reactive about certain things and of human and canine strangers. He will bark at external sounds, dogs he passes on the street, and being approached by people he does not know. Binky needs further training to help him get comfortable around other dogs and strangers.

Binky is house trained to both wee wee pads and outside, and is used to taking three walks a day and will use the pads if necessary between his walks. Like most small dogs, he has mild heart murmur that does not require any medication, and is otherwise healthy and he eats a regular diet.

The best home for Binky is one with a calm, experienced dog owner with a fenced yard for him to run and play in. He is inappropriate for a home with small children.

Binky is larger than a Maltese and he is very active. The best home for him will also be playful and active and have a fenced-in yard. The city is not the ideal environment for Binky.

If you would like to give Binky a loving home please submit Metropolitan Maltese Rescue’s online adoption application form and ask for Binky. www.malteserescue.com
