Meet Billy

Billy recently went on a Dog Day Out and here's what his DDO buddy had to say!

"My son and I had such a good time on our DDO with mister Billy today! Even though it was a gross, rainy day we made the best of it.

We started off at PetSense and he was very well-behaved, just sniffed everything and walked around.

Then we went for a walk at Bog Garden in the rain, we were the only ones there and he does pull on the leash quite a bit because he loves to sniff everything, but other than pulling he was great!

After this we went to Tractor Supply to walk around and he got some pets here! He loves people and wants all the pets/attention.

After our activities we came home and relaxed on the couch, he loves to be near you and involved. Every time I got up or my son got up he wanted to go, too.

We went on one more walk downtown and again, besides pulling on the leash he was great. Very positively interested in all the people!

Billy is the sweetest 7 year old terrier/pitbull mix weighing about 53.5lbs (HW negative + neutered). He is medium energy, even though he is an older dog he is still very lively and playful. He is a strong boy as well so needs someone who can handle that strength. He is affectionate, loving, and such a sweetie pie!

Bullet points:

* Seems to be house trained, had no accidents inside

* Does well in the car, sits or lays quietly

* Does well with children, no signs of any uncomfortableness or anything around kids, but seems to prefer the attention of adults

* I think he might prefer to be the only fur child in the home as he did seem slightly reactive to a couple of other dogs we saw (not reactive to people at all though and is very people friendly)

* Treat motivated and knows to sit for treats/food (sat politely while my son and I ate)

* Does need some work with leash walking as he is a puller, he's just very interested in sniffing and seeing ALL the things

* Cuddly and loving, he enjoyed laying beside me on the couch after all of our activities

* Doesn't jump hardly at all! Only a couple times when I first picked him up at the shelter. And he did not jump on my 5 yo son at all the whole time.

Billy can't wait to find his forever home, he will be the perfect dog for a lucky family! "

2nd DDO
"Billy is the man!
We had a great DDO yesterday consisting of walks, treats, and naps!

Like most dogs from the shelter, he started out with a bit more energy than usual, but as the day went on, I witnessed a transformation as he slowly de-stressed and began to show his true self.

For Billy, this looked like pulling on the leash at first, but as the day went on, he became a great walker. After some time, he was actually walking right by my side without pulling at all!

Billy is the perfect age- 5 years old. He has energy for play time, but has no problem sitting calmy and catching a nice nap. He is highly treat motivated and even knows "sit!" Not once did I hear Billy bark, nor did he jump up when meeting new people - a true gentlemen! We also had no issues passing other dogs on our walks; although, his notes did list him as being slightly reactive to other dogs. I did not witness this myself, but would need more time with him to properly evaluate.

Overall, I was really impressed by Billy, He is the perfect balance of energy and calmness. I would not overlook Billy, as he truly was a joy to hang out with!

Highlights:

-Great car rider (even laying down at times)
-gentle taking treats, knows sit
-plays but will sit or lay by your side and take in the sights
-No barking or jumping!"

As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines.

To meet your future pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!
