Berry's Story

** If you are interested in adopting Berry, please fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ **

Berry is a darling 2 year old, 10 pound Chihuahua mix who is as sweet as they come. Our best guess is that she may be a Chihuahua / Italian Greyhound mix, but as with all rescue dogs, that's simply an educated guess. We do not DNA test our rescue dogs.

Berry's story is one we wish was less common. She was adopted from a rural shelter in New Mexico, where dogs are not routinely spayed or neutered before adoption. Her adopter had no idea she was pregnant at the time, nor did the shelter. But, Berry had her puppies and the whole family was relinquished to one of our rescue partners, and we were able to bring this little family to safety.

Through it all, Berry has been an incredible mom. She has lovingly cared for her puppies and given them the best possible start in life. Now, as her babies grow and prepare for their own forever homes, Berry is looking forward to a future where she can finally just be someone's beloved dog.

Berry is a sweet, sweet girl. She came in a bit nervous, but could you blame her at all? She's been moved from a shelter while pregnant into a strangers home, just to have her babies and all get dumped back at the shelter. Then her and her newborn babies were put on a 20 hour long transport to Colorado. All of this scary change, all while being a new mom and caring for (and dealing with!) her 6 babies. Poor Berry deserves a loving, safe, calm home. She warms up fast, and is always very sweet and gentle. Just a bit shy at first.

After dedicating herself completely to raising her puppies, Berry deserves a family that will shower her with the love and care she has so freely given to others. She's ready to leave motherhood behind and enjoy all the wonderful things that come with being a cherished family member.

Berry will be available for adoption on July 9th, once her puppies are 8 weeks old and ready to be weaned. Applications are being accepted now for this very deserving little mama.

We'd like to place Berry in a home where she'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area.

Berry is up to date on her vaccinations, has been fully vetted, is healthy, and heartworm negative. Since she just had a litter of puppies, she is not yet spayed. We will be having her spayed prior to adoption, once her puppies are weaned. No more puppies for this girl!!!

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.

Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out 400 dogs each year.

Applications are currently being accepted for our wonderful pup. If interested in this gorgeous, very cuddly/sweet and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
