Bernie's Story
Bernie is a sweet older gentleman who is looking for a home with someone dedicated to making his remaining years comfortable and easy. He is low on the energy scale and likes to sleep on soft comfortable things.

He has not had the best care all these years but has a great capacity for forgiveness. Bernie recently finished heartworm treatment.

Bernie barks at people who approach his yard but he is very easy going when meeting new people, He is an enthusiastic eater. In general, he likes to check out what is happening and then go back to bed. He enjoys yard time and seeing who is outside. He does need access to a secure outside space at all times.

He has been "locked in" accidently and is destructive when this happens. We have a six-foot chain link fence and indoor/outdoor access, and he does well with this when left alone. He prefers to be with people and watching things from the dog bed. He is a little scared in storms and it's extra nice to be with his person when the sky is making noise.

He is likely 10-11 years old and weighs about 52 pounds, He had a dog friend when he arrived at the sanctuary and he died of cancer. Anyone adopting Bernie does so with the understanding that he may have several good years ahead but he will have age-related issues and expenses. We are looking for a compassionate soul who has experience with senior dogs and wants nothing more than to enjoy slow life with Bernie. We have had him in the cat building and he did not notice the cats.

If you are interested in adopting Bernie: Applicants must have a secure visible fence connected to an exit door of the house. Other pets in the home must be current on vaccinations, heartworm and flea/tick preventative and altered. Applicants will be screened, including a home visit.

If you would like to meet Bernie, complete an application on our website dogwoodfarmsanctuary.com and then request an appointment. Thanks for your interest in Flash. We will continue to take applications until we find the right match.
