BERNIE's Story

Bernie is a Black Tri, spayed female Australian Shepherd with a tail. She is about 1 year and 8 months old and weighs about 38 lbs. She is young and full of energy, so much so that I am looking for a dog-sport enthusiast to adopt her. I would like to find someone with prior experience with high energy Aussies like Bernie, someone who has a solid plan to handle her energy and enjoy her potential. She will be a great dog for the right person, but too much for most “mere mortals”.

She is house trained, crate trained, spayed, microchipped and up to date on vet care. She easily loads up in a car and can contentedly travel in a comfy crate. She loves, loves, loves any body of water, has the zoomies on a regular basis, already seems to have been started in agility (stairs, tunnel, cat walk) and has learned some basic commands (sit, down and possibly others that I haven’t discovered) and is good with other dogs, (not with cats, I suspect she would chase them).

She is a friend to all humans, men as well as women, doesn’t seem to be sensitive to or disturbed by loud noises. Bernie knows how to use the dog door and although she enjoys living with the other dogs, she is just as happy to go outside by herself. She can keep busy with her own adventures (chasing squirrels, following those funny hoppy-toads, investigated interesting smells) and then happily come back in when she is ready to. She actually has a very nice recall and likes being home.

Bernie is a very sweet, wonderful, young Australian Shepherd. If you are looking for a sports level young Aussie and have what it takes to make her a happy pup, please fill out our application on line at www.CBCR.org.

She is still full of puppy behavior, very enthusiastic, mouthy, jumping up, pulling on a leash. We are working on all of these behaviors to tone them down a bit but it is a work in progress. At the end of the day, she is often still going strong (like the Energizer Bunny) and then boom, she is sleeping like a puppy.

Bernie is located in south of Pittsboro NC/ north of Sanford NC. For more information, contact Dolly Watson at dolly_watson@hotmail.com.

If you have submitted an adoption application to CBCR within the last three years and you have not moved, please contact the foster parent before submitting another application. The foster parent will let you know if another application is required.

Carolina Border Collie Rescue's Adoption Policy
Carolina Border Collie Rescue (CBCR) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that was established in 1991 by a group of dedicated volunteers to provide rescue, education, and counseling to prevent mistreatment and neglect of border collies in the Carolinas. Through the support of many dedicated volunteers and generous supporters, CBCR has become a successful and well-known all-volunteer foster-home-based rescue group. We have over 50 active volunteer members and utilize their talents to place an average of 40-50 dogs annually in new, permanent, and loving homes. Many of the dogs we rescue were abandoned at a shelter, found as a stray, or relinquished to us by their owners. Currently, CBCR covers NC, SC, VA, parts of GA, and TN. Dogs are fostered in our volunteer foster families’ homes which are mostly located in the Carolinas. All of CBCR’s dogs receive medical assessments and veterinary care, training, and of course lots of love from their foster families until they are ready to be adopted to their carefully selected home. Adoption fees: The adoption fee for all dogs is $300. For any unaltered dog, there is an additional refundable deposit of $200
