Bernie's Story

Bernie is a mid-sized 26lb Australian Shepherd mix with a sweet soul, playful energy and eyes that will absolutely melt your heart.

When Bernie first came to the rescue, he was completely shut down and terrified of everything. With patience and love, he has blossomed into such a lovely, affectionate boy, and his confidence is growing every day.

Bernie loves toys, butt scratches, brushing sessions, and quality playtime with his person. He is potty-trained, crate-trained, settles quickly at home, and even puts himself to bed at night! When left alone, he curls right up in his crate without a fuss. He’s also fantastic in the car and will quietly sit for the entire ride.

As an active breed dog, Bernie would do best with an active family who will include him in their adventures. He loves other dogs and is very playful with them. He is still learning to feel confident in new environments, and new things can sometimes scare him. Outside, he can be fearful of men, so he would do best with a female owner or someone willing to patiently help him continue building his confidence.

He’s making great progress with his leash manners but will need an observant, understanding handler who is willing to let him experience the world at his own pace. Bernie has come such a long way, and we know there is someone out there who will love watching him continue to blossom.

To apply, please head over to our website at: www.loveleorescue.org
