Bennie's Story

Bennie is a 50 lb Australian Shepherd with a full, bushy tail, short stature, and pointy ears. He’s just turning 5 years old and came into rescue through no fault of his own after his previous owner lost their home.

After a good morning walk, he can be trusted loose in the house during the day. In a fenced yard, he stays close to his people other than a few zoomies. He cares more about his people than any prey drive. He might fetch a toy a few times before deciding it’s time for his next “job.”Whether that is prancing around with a toy in his mouth, following his favorite lady around the house, or keeping track of everyone.

He has truly great herding instincts with circling behavior which he even tends to do on walks by checking on his person and circling behind them. He rides great in the car, jumping right in.

He is friendly with children and has done well with the kids in his foster home. That said, his enthusiasm can sometimes be a bit much for young toddlers, and he may try to gently herd kids (or adults!) when they run.

He’s food-motivated, though a bit more polite and selective than some Aussies. He wants to be friends with every animal he meets. He previously lived with and was bonded to a female dog, so he may enjoy having a canine companion again.

Bennie forms strong bonds with his people and thrives on attention. When he’s feeling excited or a little anxious, he may jump up at you or paw for more pets—or try to climb right into your lap—he loves snuggling.

If you’re looking for a loyal, engaging, energetic and therapeutic companion who will keep you smiling, Bennie could be your perfect match.

Fostered in Central PA.
