Benji's Story

AN INQUIRY FROM PETFINDER IS NOT AN APPLICATION! READ THE ENTIRE POST FOR INFORMATION HOW TO APPLY.

Meet Benji! Benji is a 1 year old male yorkie mix and he weighs about 17 pounds. Benji arrived in rescue when his previous family could no longer care for him. His foster mom says: Benji loves long brisk walks, starting early in the morning and continuing as frequently as offered throughout the day, and after he loses a pound or two, he'll likely be looking for even more active adventures. He's a professional lizard chaser (and sometimes catcher) and visits every tree along his walk to check for them. He takes the job very seriously and can occasionally get stuck "in the zone" but can usually be coaxed to move on pretty easily. He loves people, whether family, visitors, or strangers, and would probably enjoy a household with a lot of activity. He does sometimes jump on strangers, and we are working on curbing that behavior, but it's just something to be aware of. However, he also appreciates lazy naps on the couch. He would do well with children 10+, as he is a little on the wild side sometimes and can overwhelm young ones. He's usually quiet but he has a good guard-dog bark, which he uses only when he hears suspicious noises outside. He likes dogs his own size and smaller but is selective with bigger dogs and normally barks at them when he sees them. Outside, he tries to chase cats but not rabbits, for some reason. He sometimes wants to be a lap dog and cuddles on the couch or in the bed, but he usually prefers being nearby (and still sharing the furniture). He does fine when left alone, napping on the couch or lying by the door, waiting for his people to get back, and he is housebroken as long as he has sufficient opportunities to go out and is kept on a schedule.

Benji is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped and has had his teeth cleaned.

Benji is fostered in the Orlando area and his adoption donation is $425. If you are interested in applying to adopt Benji, please visit www.floridalittledogrescue.com to read the adoption process and complete an application! Please note that emails simply asking "Is this dog available" will not be returned, as applications are worked in the order received and availability largely depends on when you apply:) Please also know we do not adopt out of state! Thank you!
