Meet Benjamin
Benjamin is a beautiful and sweet, 6 month old purebred Westie puppy who was born with CH (for an explanation, please see below). His degree of CH is high functioning. His gait is more exaggerated than a normally moving dog. He’s housebroken for his age but continued training as with any puppy would be helpful. He’s outgoing, friendly, loveable, gets along great with other dogs ( as long as they are not aggressive or really hard players), interacts well with people, plays with his toys. He eats and drinks fine on his own. Videos are available on request for serious applicants. He is vaccinated but will need to be neutered at the appropriate age and will be adopted on a neuter contract.
Cerebellar hypoplasia is an inadequate development of the cerebellum, a section of the brainstem largely responsible for modulating motor impulses. Affected dogs and cats therefore fail to move normally, especially when it comes to maintaining normal balance, posture, and coordination.
The prognosis for patients with cerebellar hypoplasia depends on the degree to which they’re affected. Since it tends not to progress, affected pets with an ability to perform basic functions adequately enough to enjoy a good quality of life have an excellent prognosis.
We are looking for a home for him where he can get more individual attention to his special needs and lots of love in an environment that’s safe for him. He’s healthy otherwise and should have a normal westie lifespan, so please be aware that his adoption would be a longterm commitment as with any puppy.
For more information and videos, please contact Erica Cerny at ecerny@optonline.net or 973-361-6790. Benjamin is a referral posting, he is not owned by the STCGNY. We are trying to help find him a wonderful forever home! Applicants should be home owners, northeast and middle Atlantic states, no strong dogs or young children who could hurt him. No bodies of water on the property. Fenced yard preferred.
