Belle is a 5-year-old, 21-pound pocket Beagle who recently joined us at a car show and had a blast.<br/>On the ride there and back, Belle was a perfect passenger. At the show, she greeted every human and dog like she'd been elected Chairwoman of the Welcoming Committee. She was friendly, relaxed, and delighted to be included.<br/>But here's the part that really impressed us: Belle was terrific on leash.<br/>Anyone familiar with beagles knows that "walking in a straight line" is not traditionally one of their core competencies. A beagle walk often resembles a tipsy detective following 47 unrelated clues through a crime scene.<br/>Belle, however, didn't pull or zigzag. She just trotted along beautifully like a tiny professional.<br/>We're not sure what she thought of the cars. Belle's more of a squeaky-toy enthusiast, so the whole event may have seemed slightly confusing. But she was very respectful.<br/>A few days later, we introduced her to Foxy, the little rat terrier who lives in the kennel next door. Belle was thrilled. The two of them played, explored the yard, investigated important smells, and generally behaved like two best friends who FINALLY got together for that long-planned lunch.<br/>And Belle's affection for people is even bigger than her affection for adventures.<br/>Sit down, or even bend over near her, and Belle immediately attempts to summit your knees. Her objective is clear: she wants to get close enough to kiss your face.<br/>She's sweet, smart, adorable, affectionate, eager to please, wonderful with other dogs, and apparently ready to accompany you anywhere, provided you understand that squeaky toys remain more culturally significant than automobiles.<br/>Belle's waiting at Animal Aid, looking for someone whose lap could use a very determined little beagle.80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA.
