Bella - Blue Eyed Great Pyrenees Mix - Foster Needed's Story
Bella was saved when she was found tied on a 2' chain when she was only about 9 months old by a landlord with not food or water and a wound on the side of her head from scratching an untreated ear infection. When the tenant did not follow through on getting her to a veterinarian, the landlord took her. She spent about a year with them, where she got treated, spayed and vaccinated. Feeling overwhelmed with too many dogs, they did their due diligence in finding her a new home. even traveling several hours away to make sure the home was a good one. Bella got out of their fencing, with her canine pal they rehomed with her.
and was taken to a shelter. The landlord was contacted about her via her microchip; they then got in touch with her new owners who said they would go reclaim her, but they never did. Bella is wicked smart and learns quickly,
She is housebroken and crate trained. She weighs about 70 lbs and looks like a small Great Pyrenees, even has double dew claws, badger ears, and stunning blue eyes. She loves human attention, will glad show you her belly for rubs, likes to snuggle and does well with other dogs. Bella would do well with an active lifestyle home. She is questionable with cats - a little too curious. A playful male dog would be the best companion for her. We recommend obedience training for all newly adopted pyrs, to help you create a special bond with you and your new friend, and so you have a well behaved canine. Great Pyrenees are willing to learn, but are not as eager to comply with commands as much as other breeds. They are bred to be independent thinkers. Applicants must be over 25, own their own home and all children in household must be over 6 years old. Your resident pets must be up to date on vaccines, sterilized, you must have a good history of vet care for them for the past two years, and you must have used heartworm preventative year round for your dogs and be able to provide proof of purchase.

Bella will be placed as an inside pet with outside privileges. You MUST have a securely fenced yard accessible from your home. Invisible fencing does not work with this breed and they will take the shock for the freedom. Great Pyrenees are bred to roam and will create their own territory if not secured, which can led to them being lost, hit by vehicles or shot by people who see them as a threat. The breed is not a good off leash dog, and cannot be trusted to not run away. A Great Pyrenees off leash is a " DisAPyr."

If you are interested in adopting or fostering, please complete the appropriate application on our website, www.igpr.org under the Adopt tab.

All of our dogs marked as needing foster homes are also available for adoption. You foster the dog, and have first right of refusal on them if an approved application is submitted for them.

In fostering a dog, the dog comes to you up to date on vaccines, You may need to transport the dog for follow up vaccines and for sterilization, based on their age. You provide good quality food, grooming, and we provide the heartworm preventative and medical care, if needed* .(*Based on approval from IGPR.)

If you are adopting, we cannot guarantee your dog will be groomed prior to you taking them home. We do offer a two week trial period, in which either party, has the right to cancel the adoption. A $100 non refundable deposit is required prior to you taking the dog. You may request the dog you are adopting be groomed at your expense, prior to picking them up. This can delay the trial period with the dog based on the availability of getting the dog an appointment with a groomer.

Adoption fee is $350
