Bella's Story
Meet Bella,

Bella is a beautiful almost 2 year old, 50-pound Australian Shepherd mix with what we believe is husky or lab. She is looking for a loving new family. Her birthday is 2024 and she will be 2. Bella is a sweet, affectionate girl who loves spending time with her people and enjoys playing with toys. She enjoys being with her people. She is a huge cuddler, laying in the recliner, on the couch or in the bed are all places she loves to be. Her favorite human snackie is pepperoni and cheese. Now she is treated like a Princess and she is awaiting her new castle and people to please. With everything she has been through you would never have known it. She is the most fun, loving energetic doggy. She needs play, stimulation and exercise to get her energy out. She likes to run, romp and frolic in the lawn when she is showing off. She does really wide long runs in the yard. She enjoys walks and walks best on a harness, easy walk or nose lead.

- Crate Trained
-Used to going Potty on a lead in the yard (lead reaches inside the house so the door can be shut while attaching and un-attaching the dogs.)
* Because of her high energy we would like her to have a fenced in yard (5 to 6 feet) - she could easily jump 4ft.
- Great with Kids
- Good with other dogs - she plays with other doggies well. She bows down, wags her tail and gets very excited.
- Getting better with cats (she does bark at cats in her kennel and has some prey drive). Would do best in a house with cats that have a lot of other space, kitties that choose not to interact with the dog, keep their distance or no kitties at all.
She was in foster care with cats before.
- Training wise - she needs to learn a little more control (for lowering and managing her energy, recall, and not jumping when she is excited or on the lead).
This can call be done by sticking to consistency and routine. This is what we use the Pepperoni, cheese, and training treats for.

****She came with a plastic clipping collar that broke off while we were on a walk. She does those wide runs, either in circles or back and forth in front of you. If you try to chase her she thinks its a game. The best thing to do is to keep calling her and sit down. She comes running over to you like a barrel rolling down a hill, making her easy to catch, believe it or not.

Her Story:
We were contacted by someone who personally knew Bellas Owner.
She came to us in March 2026 as an owner surrender, who was part of a domestic violence and abuse case.
After a few days her friend and our rescue begged her owner to surrender her due to the owners current situation and for the safety and well being of the animal.
Bella was in a high stakes situation where she was not incontrol of anything that was about to happen to her. Her owner was couch surfing. The new guy she was staying with had multiple charges for domestic abuse, battery and terroristic threats. He was on the run from police.
Bellas owner was supposed to surrender her to us. We had things set up to meet with her. The night before the planned surrender, the police were called to the residence where she was staying. The police deemed Bellas owner in a mental health crisis. She was taken to a mental health to be evaluated for a 72 hour hold. She advised police she did not live here, she did not have the change to explain she was surrendering her dog, they told her to leave the dog inside the apartment. They locked the dog in when they left with no known person to care for it.
Once taken away they would not allow her to make calls until after 48-72 hours. We were not called for over 48 hours. We were waiting on the address the morning of the surrender. Now this happened! She called us and once we got the address it was late in the evening. We had to wait for the landlord to contact us back to provide access to the locked apartment. On the 3rd day Bella was locked in the apartment alone, before morning or the landlord could contact us back: the male renter who was on the run from police had his aunt pick up Bella. She was now being held hostage. He refused to disclose the name of his relative, her whereabouts. We kept messaging him to attempt to obtain more information about the dog to figure out how to get her back. He advised he would never hurt Bella and that she was safe being cared for by his aunt. He demanded that he only meet with the owner. After working with her case worker to finalize the surrender paperwork, contacting the humane officer and local police we advised he had 48 hours to meet our rescue director with the dog or charges would be filed.
FINALLY!!! Within those 48 hours, 2 weeks after Bella was supposed to be surrendered by her owner: we were reunited with her and brought her to safety!!!
We met with the aunt, she was fairly clueless to the hostage dog situation. She only thought she was helping by caring for the dog because she was asked to. She only wanted what was best for Bella. She helped get her on a regular eating schedule before coming to us.
Before coming to us Bella experienced abuse and neglect. She was skinny and moved around a lot and was not so sure of her future then. After being with us she accepts all the love we have to give and now knows what to expect her future to look like.
About 2 months after we took Bella, we were informed the owner also received charges for child abuse around the time we had received Bella. We were saddened to hear this but thankful to have removed her from a situation where she was going through things she shouldn't have had to.

VETTING WITH ADOPTION INCLUDES:
- Spay
- Rabies Vaccination
- Distemper Vaccinations
- Lepto Vaccinations (If available through vet)
- Dewormed
- Flea and Tick Treatment Current
- Microchipped
- 4 DX tested for Lymes if they have any symptoms, have been bit by a tick.
(she has never been bit by a tick before)

TO ADOPT APPLY BY:
*** Fill out the application:
https://forms.gle/snyQwCZdjLkCm5pSA
&
Confirm we received your application by:
Emailing @ NPLBrescue@gmail.com
or
Calling 724-393-0348
with your Contact Information [Name, Phone number, Email, and zip code]
&
Schedule your meet and greet or take home date!
