He comes from a breed type known for its friendly nature, intelligence, and playful energy. Retriever mixes often thrive in active homes where they can enjoy daily walks, playtime, and plenty of opportunities to learn and explore.<br/>During his time with us, Bear has shown himself to be social, affectionate, and curious. As a young dog who is still maturing, he’s eager to engage with the world around him and build strong connections with his people. Bear’s enthusiasm and affectionate nature make him a fun and rewarding companion for the right family.<br/><br/>Training & Support<br/>Bear is still learning and will benefit from continued positive, reward-based training focused on confidence-building and clear communication. This approach relies on patience, consistency, and rewards such as treats or praise to reinforce desired behaviours, helping Bear feel safe and secure as he adjusts to a new environment.<br/>We recommend working with a qualified trainer to support Bear as he continues to develop good manners and important life skills, setting him up to be a well-rounded and happy companion.<br/><br/>Ideal Home<br/>Bear would do best in a home that can provide structure, regular exercise, and ongoing training. He may be a good fit for a family with children aged 10 years and older who are able to interact with him appropriately and respectfully.<br/>Bear has shown mixed reactions to some dogs while in care, so at the moment our preference would be a dog free home. We are still working to assess his compatibility more as he settles in. His compatibility with cats is currently unknown, as he has not yet been tested with them.<br/><br/>With time, consistency, and love, Bear has great potential to grow into a loyal, playful, and fun-loving family dog.<br/><br/>-----------------------------------------------------------------------------<br/>Ready to Apply?<br/><br/>If you would like to meet Bear, please download an application from our website at:<br/><br/>vancouver.ca/adoption-form <br/><br/>Then, email your complete application to: animal.shelter@vancouver.ca <br/><br/>If your application is approved, we will contact you to arrange a meet and greet.<br/><br/>-----------------------------------------------------------------------------<br/>All adult dogs at Animal Services have veterinary health checks, and are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and defleaed (if necessary) before going to their new homes. <br/>Children: Yes 10+<br/>Cats: Unknown <br/>Dogs: Yes- he tends to prefer females<br/>Training Needs: Basic manners<br/>Adoption Fee: $391<br/><br/>If you live in the City of Vancouver, you will also need to purchase a dog licence.<br/><br/>For more information on our adoption process, go to vancouver.ca/adopt
