Bear's Story
Some dogs enter your life like a gentle breeze. Bear enters like a cannonball with legs.
Bear is a 3.5-year-old Chihuahua/Terrier mix who looks, quite frankly, like a bat that's been hitting the gym and is now ready to make questionable choices at high speed.
Two years ago, Bear was out there alone, hiding from neighborhood kids who were throwing rocks at him. A kind family stepped in, brought him to safety, got him vetted, and tried to find his owner. When no one came forward, they did their best to give him a home. But Bear was simply too much for their senior dogs, and he needed a different kind of life.
Bear is here to PARTY. He's 15 pounds of energy and enthusiasm, and he needs an active, sturdy person -- or better yet, a household with a playful dog. In a past foster home, his favorite activity was launching himself into a 120-pound Rottweiler like a furry missile, then sprinting laps as if he had just invented cardio. This went well, mostly because the Rottweiler was emotionally prepared.
Bear loves other dogs, but his play style is rough and rowdy, so he probably wouldn't fit well with senior or sedentary pups. Cats are NOT an option -- he's already made that very clear.
With humans, Bear is understandably cautious at first. But give him a minute and a treat, and he'll decide you're his person -- his hero, his safe place, his whole world. From there, he's affectionate, loyal, and fully committed, jumping up to greet you eye-to-eye just to make sure you understand how happy he is. What Bear needs now is someone who sees past the chaos to the heart underneath it. He's been let down before, and he deserves a home that can meet his energy and keep him safe.
If you love to play, or have a dog who does, and you want to be the happily ever after for a little dog with a huge personality, please come meet Bear. Animal Aid Society is located at 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton, with visiting hours from 9am to noon, including weekends and holidays.
Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!

PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.
