I'm Barton, a 4-year-old terrier mix and all-around laid-back sweetheart.

I'm 50 pounds of precious. I'm well known for my heart-melting impersonation of a seal when I lay my ears back and sit for treats!

I came to the Humane Society as an owner-surrender along with a little chihuahua friend. I was in rough shape when I came to the rescue, missing fur on my tail and feet along with some small wounds.

It turns out that I have hypothyroidism, a condition easily treated with inexpensive medication. I'm such a good boy in taking my pills, too. The HSYC staff can tell you more about this manageable condition - and what an amazing recovery I've made!

I do best with small dogs but am learning to be friends with dogs my own size. I'm in foster care now, getting a break from the shelter, and I get along well with the resident dog.

I'm a very smart boy and a quick learner. It only took me a couple of days in my foster home to learn how to ask to go outside to do my business! I learn well from people and also from other dogs.

I do well on a leash and I'm an excellent car rider. I'm a laid-back, calm guy and I adapted quickly to learning house-manners in foster care. I do well on walks, but I'm just as happy to play with a ball in the yard between my naps on the couch.

I've been at the rescue for a year now and am ready to find my forever home.
