Bart's Story

Bart is an adorable, sweet 3-year-old Doxle (Dachshund and Beagle mix) who was adopted from Kern County Animal Services by a family in Thousand Oaks with four children and no time for a dog. The adopter, unfortunately, sent the dog to a sanctuary with 100 dogs in Apple Valley before consulting with CAPS.

Streets of Bakersfield: Doggy Day Out Notes:

Bart was great with kids and loves going on walks. He was well-behaved on walks and loved interacting with people and other dogs. He was calm when inside and house-trained. He didn't chew any of the children's toys around the house.

Companion Animal Protection Services (CAPS), a national nonprofit based in Thousand Oaks, CA., is partnering with Kern County Animal Services in Bakersfield to find homes for high risk dogs, The shelter has more than 300 dogs and puppies in two metal warehouses with no outdoor runs. Dogs over five-months-old are at high risk for euthanasia because of lack of space and too many abandoned dogs in the community.

Please contact CAPS if you are interested in adopting, rescuing or fostering, and we will make sure the shelter contacts you.
