Barnes's Story

Barnes is living in a foster home! Please submit an application from our website and email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to see if you're a match!

Scroll through his pictures to see his cute video content!

Barnes was part of an "accidental litter" who landed at a rescue in Texas with his mom and siblings. After a month of growing, playing, and getting ready for the next chapter, Barnes made the journey to Wheeling and landed in a wonderful foster home!

Barnes is such a sensitive, sweet soul that really blossomed in his first foster home! He had another dog in the home to show him the ropes and that has been very helpful for him with building confidence. Overall, Barnes is a very good pup that is growing into an amazing dog! Below is what his first foster family has to share about him!

"Barnes is the perfect mix of puppy energy and love. He loves to run out the zoomies with humans and dogs alike, but is sure to cuddle up with you at bedtime. Barnes might be shy with new people, but once he opens up there is no end to the amount of kisses you'll get when he does. Barnes is so resilient; he has been through so much change and yet he still wants to love you and shower you with puppy energy. He's never met a toy or treat he doesn't like! He would be an energetic and loving addition to any home looking for a forever loyal friend."

Barnes is in a new foster home where he lives with a cat and three other dogs. His foster mom writes, "Start your engines! Barnes may begin life in a new home as the pace car, taking things slow while he learns the track, builds trust, and settles into his routine. But once he feels safe, he'll pull into the pit stop, swap rides, and come flying out with unlimited kisses, nonstop affection, and enough love to fill the winner's circle. At just 6 months old, Barnes has already overcome more obstacles than most pups his age, and he's making incredible progress every day. He looks to confident older dogs for guidance and would love a canine teammate to help him navigate life's twists and turns. This sweet boy is searching for an active family that appreciates both 0-to-60 zoomies and championship-level cuddle sessions. If you're ready to give this underdog racer his forever finish line, Barnes is ready to wave the checkered flag and race straight into your heart."

The cutest thing Barnes does is run to the bedroom and grab an article of my clothing and brings it back to his doggie bed. He will grab one at a time till he has them all, and then sleep with them! It's his way of comforting himself."

We hope you will inquire about this VGB today!

Barnes' adoption fee is $300.00 This animal is neutered, and is up to date on core vaccines appropriate for their age.

He will need a Heartworm test between 6-7 months of age at the adopter's own vet.

Since he is a puppy, any adopter should anticipate needing to work on housebreaking and other training using positive reinforcement training only.
