Born Sept 4, 2025, Banjo is an Ontario dog found as a stray and remained unclaimed at the shelter.<br/><br/>Banjo is a GREAT puppy and the shelter adored him and his wonderful personality. Unfortunately, Banjo landed wrong on his right hind leg and created a small fracture where his ligament attaches to his shin bone (tibial crest / tuberosity avulsion)<br/><br/>Banjo was placed on 2 months of crate rest. Super challenging in a shelter environment for a puppy, so the shelter requested transfer to Mattie's Place and he joined us in May 2026.<br/><br/>I had our board certified orthopaedic surgeon review the file and multiple sets of x-rays on his healing, and the surgeon agreed that by the week of June 8th he would be fully healed and ready to take on the world again as a normal bouncy adolescent puppy.<br/><br/>That time has arrived and Banjo is back in full swing again.<br/><br/>Banjo is a Bullweiller (Bulldog / Rottweiler -- possibly more breeds) and currently weighs about 50 pounds. <br/><br/>Banjo is great with all people he meets, cats and dogs. He's just a great, great boy. He really is the life of any party, large or small, he'll bring out the smiles and laughs.<br/><br/>Banjo however does have separation anxiety he is working through. so he'll need someone home most often. Can he outgrow this? Maybe. But he is such a lover of people he just may be a dog that needs his humans home always. I can't be sure where he'll land with this as he grows into adulthood.<br/><br/>Banjo lives with a trainer in a board and train program to work on his separation anxiety. He is also on a medication called Clomicalm to support his crate / being alone fears that was started in August. This isn't a lifetime medication, but a medication for now, while he's in training and settles into a new home. It allows his brain to focus at the tasks at hand vs. letting his puppy brain take over without a lot of thought.<br/><br/>Banjo would do well with another equally sized or larger, canine companion in the home to play with as he does love to play and get all those zoomies out. He is a bit of a bull in a china shop, so a sturdy dog that matches some higher play energy would be his best match to really get his playtime in.<br/><br/>Banjo is fully up to date medically: DA2PPV, Bordetella, Rabies, HWT, Microchipped, Drontal, Revolution and neutered.<br/><br/>This goofy, sweet guy is ready to join his for-always family! Is it you he's looking for?<br/><br/><br/>FROM THE TRAINER:<br/><br/>Banjo is quite honestly one of the sweetest dogs you’ll ever meet. He absolutely LOVES people, loves other dogs, and is happiest when he’s right in the middle of whatever his humans are doing.<br/><br/>He’s a professional snuggler, belly-rub enthusiast and toy connoisseur — stuffies, balls, tugs... Banjo is not picky. If it involves playing or being loved on, he’s in. He is also VERY food motivated which has made training more fun for him. <br/><br/>Banjo also has a great training foundation. He knows his basic obedience and is officially crate trained.<br/><br/>Banjo is a sensitive guy who can sometimes have a hard time settling himself when he becomes overly excited or overwhelmed. He does best with calm, predictable routines and a person who can help him slow things down when his excitement starts to build.<br/><br/>His crate is one area where he still needs some extra support. Although Banjo is crate trained and does settle, being crated can initially be stressful for him. Occasionally that stress causes him to urinate, which has been very manageable with a belly band. Coming out of his crate can be exciting too, so we’ve found that slow, calm exits help him start off on the right foot.<br/><br/>Banjo can also get caught up in the excitement around him. When dogs start playing harder, people get excited or the energy in the room suddenly changes and amplifies with a more excited tone, he sometimes joins in a little too enthusiastically! He may become bouncy, mouthy and overly excited, but responds well to calm redirection and being given a chance to reset.<br/><br/>Structure, consistency and a calm approach go a long way with this boy.<br/><br/>He is an incredibly sweet, social and affectionate dog who loves his people, enjoys the company of other dogs and has so much love to give. He’ll happily play with you, curl up beside you for a snuggle and roll over for as many belly rubs as you’re willing to give.<br/><br/>Banjo is looking for someone who will appreciate the wonderful dog he already is while continuing to help him become the very best version of himself. <br/><br/>----------------------------------------<br/><br/>$99 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leashcollar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.<br/><br/>----------------------------------------<br/><br/>To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting. Unless you are willing to take daily medication to manage dog allergies, please do not apply to adopt because I can't risk a dog being returned due to allergic reactions.
