Bandit's Story

Bo is a ~10-year old hound mix looking for a home. Along with 3 other dogs, Bo spent his entire life living outside tethered on an 8 foot chain. His owner died in April 2023. For 8 months after, these four dogs survived alone, attended to when possible by a family member or a caring neighbor.

In early December, AC ARF learned about the dogs and took action to get them into a safe environment. All four were relocated and are now safe, cared for and living indoors. They have all been vetted and are putting on weight.

We are now looking to find Bo a foster or foster-to-adopt home. A new home to call his own, a safe place to live, a soft bed indoors and a family that loves him. Bo is safe inside for the first time in his life and it is such a joy to see his happy face and stubby wiggly tail beating rapidly when greeted! Sweet and smart Bo has had only positive interactions with new people and gets along with other dogs after proper introduction. We aren’t sure how he would be with cats yet.

Bo’s former owner provided his outside dogs with the bare necessities of life but did not know they also needed protection from parasites. As a result Bo and two dogs tested positive for heartworm. Bo needs to live in a home environment for his heartworm treatment, which will take 6 months. Bo is currently living at a boarding facility. Bo is fully vaccinated, neutered, on preventatives and has already begun treatment for his heartworm and needs a home to continue his healing journey. All expenses for his care (veterinary, food/supplies) are provided by AC ARF.

Bo is friendly and loving, and adapting quickly to a completely different lifestyle in his senior years. Smart and eager to learn Bo is showing improvement every day. Caretakers have been providing him with frequent and reasonable outside time and exercise along with supporting new social and housebreaking skills. AC ARF can help with training in his new home if needed.

Bo is proving to be an astounding old gentleman, experiencing his new world with enthusiasm and charm. He may be a senior, but Bo has plenty of energy and drive. He is looking for a family that has room for him to run and play, one that will take him for walks, have play dates with other dogs, snuggle on a soft bed, and be loved forever. AC ARF believes that dogs should thrive, not just survive. Bo is a spunky guy that deserves to thrive in his senior years. There is nothing quite like the love of an adult dog that has left behind those sometimes challenging puppy years. We can’t wait to see Bo continue to blossom!
