Balto's Story

Balto appeared one day right in front of our shelter, lying on the roadside as if waiting for someone to notice him. He was painfully thin, weak, and looked as though he had been hit by a car. When we found him, he could not even walk due to the severe pain, so we carried him to safety. We could not leave him behind on the road, even though our shelter has been facing difficult times and scarce resources.

At the vet, he received initial medical attention, and while no acute fractures were found back then, he was severely underweight, anemic, and terrified. With time, love, and dedicated basic care, Balto regained his strength, his weight, and his trust in humans. It has now been about a year and a half since his rescue, and he is a vibrant, deeply affectionate boy. However, as time has passed, he has shown increasing discomfort in his back and hip. While he walks and runs, he sometimes steps with a wider, altered gait and sits in different, unusual postures due to his hip discomfort. Our shelter currently lacks the funds needed for specialized surgery and advanced veterinary treatments, which is why we are urgently seeking an adopter or medical sponsors (godparents) who can help Balto get the specialized orthopedic care and treatment he truly needs and deserves.

Information About Balto
-Age: Approximately 4 years old (rescued about 1.5 years ago).
-Breed: Siberian Husky / Alaskan Malamute / Shepherd Mix.
-Personality: Incredibly sweet, cheerful, lively, smart, and adores human attention with all his soul. Unlike many Huskies, Balto is very food-motivated and maintains great focus, which makes him remarkably easy to train (he learned how to give his paw in no time!). He dislikes injections and will let you know, but he is fundamentally gentle.
-Temperament: Highly communicative and classic Husky—he makes funny little noises, howls with his signature "wolf song" to ask for affection, and will keep you smiling with his antics.
-Physical Condition & Health Needs: He can walk, run, and play, but he has an altered, slightly open gait and sits in unusual positions due to back and hip discomfort that has developed over time after his hit-and-run accident. He is in urgent need of an adopter or sponsors to help fund his specialized orthopedic evaluation, potential surgery, and medical treatment.
-Social Skills: Very social, friendly, and playful with other dogs; he thrives on the companionship of both humans and fellow canines.
-Health Status: Up to date on basic care, neutered, well-nourished, lively, but requires dedicated veterinary support for his hip/back condition.

What the Adoption Includes
-Already Neutered.
-Multiple Vaccine DHPPI (Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2, Parvovirus, and Parainfluenza).
-Rabies Vaccine.
-Medical history record.
-Internal and external deworming.
-Professional grooming and bath.
-ISO identification microchip.
-Collar and leash.
-Formal adoption contract.

Adoption & Donation Details
-Total Donation: 250 USD.
-Breakdown: This consists of a minimum donation of 200 USD to cover medical expenses, complete veterinary care, and grooming, while also contributing directly to our Community TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) fund to sponsor the spay and neuter of street dogs; plus an additional 50 USD for transportation for the border crossing (paid directly to the transporter).
-Community Impact: By adopting, you not only give a loving pet a second chance, but you also directly support our community sterilization efforts to stop the cycle of abandonment and reduce the homeless animal population. Any extra donation is deeply appreciated and allows us to continue saving lives.
-Location: Tijuana (Delivery available to Plaza Las Americas, Chula Vista).
-Sponsorship / Medical Support: If you cannot adopt, Balto is actively seeking godparents/sponsors to help cover his specialized diagnostics, X-rays, therapy, or orthopedic surgery. Every dollar directly supports his recovery.

How to Help
Balto survived abandonment, trauma on the highway, and hunger. He has endless love to give, learns quickly, and craves a family or sponsor willing to help him heal his hip and give him the comfortable life he deserves.

WhatsApp: +52 664 764 1811 (Messages only)
Email: forhappytails.dogrescue@gmail.com

Follow Our Journey
-Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ForHappyTails
-Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/forhappytails
-TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@for_happy_tails
