Azalea's Story

Meet Azalea - a tiny dachshund mix looking for a patient, understanding forever home.
Azalea came from a hoarding situation and is still learning how to feel safe and comfortable in the world around her. Because of that, she needs an adopter who will respect her boundaries, move at her pace, and give her the time she needs to continue building trust.

She's spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccines.

Azalea would do best in a home with a confident, friendly dog who can help show her the ropes. She absolutely loves other dogs and makes friends with them quickly - having a canine companion really helps her feel more secure.

She is not a dog who enjoys being picked up and may bite if pushed beyond her comfort level, though she has already made a lot of progress with handling. She does best when given choices and allowed to do things on her own terms. For example, when it's time for meals or bedtime, she prefers to walk into her crate herself rather than be placed inside.

One of the best parts of watching Azalea grow has been seeing her slowly discover affection. She's learning to enjoy snuggles, has become a fan of head scratches, and will even nuzzle or nudge you when she wants more attention.

Azalea is looking for someone patient, observant, and committed to understanding her body language and helping her continue gaining confidence. She may never be the kind of dog who wants constant handling, but she has already made incredible strides and deserves a home willing to meet her where she is.

If you believe in giving dogs the time and grace they need to heal and thrive, Azalea might be the perfect fit for you.
